Wild that there has been zero response from the conference. Usually leadership would require you say SOMETHING. Maybe "usually" isn't a term that should be used when discussing WAC "leadership."

I wonder what was written in the original contract agreement with UMKC and the WAC? The WAC paid that exit fee of $250,000 from the Summit and waived their entry fee of $450,000. Maybe there was a stipulation in the contract, such as, UMKC will owe some or all of that money if they leave the WAC for the Summit? They probably did not see this coming or maybe UMKC lied about their intentions. Who knows, but the silence is unusual.

Why would you say something about something that doesn’t really bother you? Your boss doesn’t comment when a bad employee leaves, why would the WAC comment on losing this garbage program? Bakersfield is a good program that we all wanted here. UMKC, not so much

Actually, good employees are always happy to see bad employees go and can't stop talking about it. I agree, we will miss CSUB. UMKC is the "don't let the door hit you on the way out" school. It is just a little bit strange that there are no comments from the WAC. Speaking of "don't let the door hit you on the way out" schools, I wonder if Denver would consider coming back?

Maybe Denver will come back since GCU is a fake non profit now and with UMKC leaving its getting to be a real western conference again.

Well, it wasn't our first unless you don't count UTRGV as a continuation of UTPA. But UTPA's Sun Belt membership was so far back that I can't blame people for not remembering.

The last few years Hurd has become quiet. No longer speaking during the WAC media day for basketball. I have better recollection of him at CBUs announcement to join the WAC then Dixie State. Reminds me of NMSUs former AD Boston. Only spoke when he felt like it.

Remember, UMKCs addition was solely Hurds doing. He is probably trying to collect himself. $5 Carl Benson is consoling him.

It's a loss considering the WAC's state, but UMKC is a joke.

The WAC could make a stabilizing move here and invite 5 D2 Lonestar football playing schools (or some combination of Lonestar schools and Southland schools).

Once everyone gets through their probationary status dump Chi St:

East: UTRGV + 5 Texas fb schools
West: NMSU, GCU, Dixie St, UVU, Cal Bapt, Seattle

FB: Dixie St + 5 Texas fb schools

The Texas FB schools are more inclined to come up because there is safety in numbers and they have enough schools to have an FCS fb league.

5 of the following 6 seem logical--West Texas A&M, A&M Commerce, A&M Kingsville, Angelo St, Midwestern St, and Tarleton St

Then the Texas schools will vote in a block as they did in the WAC pre MWC and **** the WAC over.

Maybe they didn’t on purpose so you would leave. Speaking of leaving, don’t feel like you have to wait till 7/1/20 to leave this board. You can leave sooner.

PS, I hope your new coach is working on FTs so the refs don’t determine the outcome of your games when you miss crucial ones late in the game...

The Elephant in the room is that NMSU is so different financially from a sports perspective from every other school in the WAC (Compare NMSU vs Chicago St) that it will continue to cause instability in the WAC until they can find a football conference to join.

The jump NMSU made this year in basketball was very impressive and they looked like a sweet 16 team if they had been paired against anyone but Auburn.

There is just no competitive balance when NMSU can recruit the way they are so there is little incentive to finance sports when the WAC is so top heavy.

I'll enjoy the WAC for one last year.

Most conferences have something of a juggernaut. I never hear the end of complaints about how referees seem to favor Montana in all things Big Sky. Gonzaga/WCC. Plus if you look at all the financial ties USC supporters have to the Rose Bowl and the Pac-12, that might theoretically explain things other than how Oregon got rich. So... unless you're about to go Ivy League, be ready for the same old same old.

Leaving the obvious "the conference doesn't subsidize new arenas, so whose fault is the rent situation anyway" question aside...

What is the likelihood of a remodel to your on-campus facility?

Portland State made do for 20 years playing in 1,500-capacity Stott Center in the Big Sky, and finally got a remodel (well, really a new arena in the same building as the entire building gets gutted and sort-of rebuilt). That probably didn't happen without the unconnected Oregon Health Sciences University offering somewhere around 15-20% of the funding while getting use of the arena for graduations and symposiums (usually out of basketball season). Now, I couldn't tell you Portland State's financial position relative to UMKC... I know the athletic department runs on fumes.

PSU has no baseball or MSoc. PSU would not help the WAC one bit.

Seriously people, do more than just look at a map and see what geographically fits.

If Portland State's football attendance does not improve this year (given they've finally dropped the pretense of playing in Providence Park and committed to Hillsboro well ahead of time)...

...AND if, therefore, Portland State drops football and compensates for that with the other sports...

...just saying.

Is that going to happen? There's the rub.

Portland St has to show that their football team can run a zero deficit to the athletic department in a 3 or 4 year period or football would be dropped. But that was the llast I heard of it and I haven't heard anything since.

Portland State dropping football would get them booted from the Big Sky.

That was 5-6 years and 2 school presidents ago.

As the latest one just got dismissed, leadership is up in the air again. None of what you said applies. Not much else seems to apply, either.

Feel free to link us to the BSC bylaw(s) that state dropping FB gets you booted from the BSC. All I'm seeing is that it gets you a stern talking to from the President Council. Oh the horror. Hell there aren't any bylaws stating how to boot associate members.

BSC is not booting PSU if they drop FB.
