RE: 2019 Orlando Sentinel Countdown
Matt Murschel of the Sentinel talked some about the rankings yesterday. The Sun Belt chatter starts around the 6:30 mark.

Teams tend to do well the season after an upset loss to us

I could easily see gaso with another sunbelt championship in 2019. They saw several opportunities last year, but fell short. Returning a coaching staff the fanbase trusts means a lot. So many questions with the top 4 or 5. I'm excited for football season.

The excitement is there for everyone in this conference seeing the opportunity present itself. crApp is putting pressure on all of us. GS's been returning the favor for decades arguably why we're both here. It's real and intense and seeing how this impacts the likes of the members in this conference is the excitement.

App launched our feasibility study first and made our unofficial announcement first. GS just yelled 'shotgun' and sprinted to the car door.

You were just a twinkle in your Daddy's eye when he won 6 national titles. Suppose not. Suppose you languished for years in the SoCon alone. Yah no passenger seat over here. We been driven from the gitgo.

But what does it say about the programs when App had to plan for years in advance in order to make the jump and Georgia Southern did it on a whim? Kinda seems like your logic counters the point you’re trying to make.

Nothing.

Your admin imagined a future of being left behind in the SoCon and not knowing when/if another opportunity would present itself. "Make the move now and we'll figure out the details later."

In a reversed situation, I'd like to think we'd have just jumped as well. Especially after the last time...

In all likelihood, the studies and plans would have been nearly interchangeable anyway. Someone looked around and said, "If they can do it, we can do it. If they're going to do it, we have to do it. Hey WCU and UT-C, turn off the lights if you leave."

Unlikely two rivals in the same conference with the same history ever show again much less both prepared to make the jump at the same time. If GS can keep up and App continues to roll after the change the conference is in a good position if it holds together. Good coaches will come and go quicker than a cat on a hot tin roof now. At the end of the day it's the hate that keeps us moving forward. Taken an arswhippen from the likes of crApp has to be the worst feeling known to man. How'd that feel last year?

Felt like the better team ran up against the perfect storm, the remaining results of 2018 support this.

It’s happened to both many times in the series, which is what makes it one of the great ones.

I would argue Georgia State starting football and getting the SBC invite got the wheels going more than anything. Not a coincidence 2012 was when the intentions of moving up were announced. That was the same year State accepted the invite IIRC.

Pretty much sums up the history between GS and App and Ga state adds another level of hate. Few programs at this level bring more frustration with a loss. Trust me. Replacing Ga state with say a Marshal or whoever may add immediate strength but long term not a good move IMO. Solid marketz add. Historically very strong relatively new move ups on both sides of the Sun Belt in great locations. Atlanta in the heart in the east UT Arlington and Texas state both giants anchoring the west. The peaces are in place for rapid accent to the top of the G5 IMO. Keeping all the same and two years of solid from Texas and Ga state and CCU it's on... It's going to happen soon.

I'd say it had more to do with a President being in place that understood the value of the move and made sure the AD was in line with the move or got out of the way. Bruce Grube and Sam Baker did more to hold us back than anything else. If I'm not wrong, Georgia Southern was contacted when the SBC originally formed for football but we declined.....due to the two previously mentioned administrators. When you have a bean counter at AD who doesn't want to rock the boat, and a President who "tolerates" sports (and is on public record as saying he wouldn't do interviews about sports), you see what happens.

There were a lot more factors than just Gast getting an invite. Did that give us incentive? Sure, but things had already been in work under President Keel.

I recall something about Sam Baker pissing off the Sun Belt Commissioner back in late 90s or early 2000s.... Might have been his usual ramblings of about how the G5 schools would fall back to the FCS, which was one his defenses against going up to FBS.

I'll just say this: I hope that no one especially App winds up in C-USA. The Sun Belt has served us well.

There is absolutely zero reason for App to join CUSA. We can schedule any of the CUSA East teams we want. We've had series with ODU, Marshall and UNCC. Ditching a mega rival like GaSo and up-and-coming rivalry with Troy would be stupid... For what? MTSU and WKU? Pffft.

Some App graduate on Twitter thought I was crazy for thinking were better off in the SBC than in C-USA. "Is this even a debate?"

I stand by the wish for geographic realignment and of course would expect App to take an AAC invitation, but C-USA just as it is? No thanks.

That's like pre-2012 thinking. CUSA is a shell of its former self. Took the least desirable old SBC teams (Minus WKU) for some dumb reason and left the Belt with teams that have fan bases.

CUSA is the old Sun Belt that everyone made fun of plus Marshall and USM.
