Now we think we can turn our noses up at schools like USM?

Do we remember that the Big East took a chance when they invited us for all sports? Our football was the worst in FBS then...and basketball was trending down.
I would like to see someone that we have history with be asked to join...and we have that in Southern Miss.
Membership would give them a higher profile to improve on the two major sports that mean something...football and basketball.

Ok ... Or we could just move back to CUSA. Bring Tulane and ECU with us !! Maybe they 'll let Arky State join ... 07-coffee3

Not sure UConn is really giving up anything. The basketball only 10 Big East schools get around $4M per year from Fox. The all sports deal with ESPN for the AAC is around $7M per school. But UConn loses so much money on football each year, they can drop back down to FCS and save a lot of money.

As an independant they can play awhole lot of buy games. 8 or 9 away games a season instead of 6 or 7, getting around 1mil per game.

That would be hard to schedule. For the most part you have to do the buy games in September. Big 10 and Big 12 teams both play 9 conference games each year.

All sports members only. Try to keep it in 2 time zones.

Would be nice to see WSU restore their football program but it would take too long to get it up and running.

We could raid CUSA but few major TV markets in the group. Options are UTEP, Charlotte, UAB, Marshall, FIU, FA or USM. But UTEP would mean going to a third time zone. Long distance for non revenue sports to travel. Florida Int and Florida Atl add good TV markets but we already have two schools in the state.

Navy agreed to join but ONLY if they were in the west, so no chance of moving them to the east. They could just bolt since they are football only as it is. Maybe see if you can get them and Army full time.

Looking at 11 full-time members so realistically we could add 3 and go 14. Or if really ambitious maybe 16. BUT ONLY FULL TIME MEMBERS

no more viable candidates to keep it at 2 time zones and full time members only. Have to keep/make money generating revenue sports profile higher (football, basketball). The conference brand name is already national, not regional. Might as well maximize it. The days of structuring a P5 conference in the model of the current P5s is long gone. Those are legacies we will never catch up to. We will have to do it differently and in a more modern way.

Stability is the key. You can not become stable if you have to look up and see which school plays in which sport. You may not become a P5 conference but you can maintain your position as the top G5 by having a strong permanent base of all sports schools. We have a stronger than the other G5 conference TV deal because we are stable. WSU basketball had a down year this past year and they brought little to the conference due to that. If the one sports teams have a bad year in that sport then they lose their value to the conference.

We may not be getting P5 money but because we have a strong core of full time members we have a significantly higher payout than the other G5 conferences. We saw a $5 million per team INCREASE while other G5 conference saw their payoutgo down. We are where the other G5 schools want to be and in the event of realighment again and the possible reduction to P4 Conferences then we are where some of the current P5 school not included in the realignement will end up.

Our strength is full time markets. We need to add more FULL TIME MARKETS but also do it in areas where it will not be detrimental to our non revenue sports. At least with schools such as FIU or F-Atl the non revenue teams can bundle the trips together play those teams duringa single trip.

With UConn likely moving back to the Big East, where could the AAC turn for a replacement?

Southern Miss would get recruiting bump from AAC membership, as well as being able to hire better coaches. It's in the heart of AAC country, and we can recreate the Black and Blue Bowl series all over again.

Southern Miss brings nothing to the table.

But let's get nostalgic for the 1000 they would bring to the Liberty Bowl.

Even when we were mediocre(at best) we should have turned our noses up to USM, they add NOTHING! a Few hundred of our fans want to see us play them everybody else DOES NOT CARE. Neither do any TV viewers. They are a NOBODY

There really aren't a lot of great options for a replacement. Not counting long shots like BYU or Boise State, UAB might make the most sense of the realistic choices.

It's really a shame that Louisville is in the ACC because that is who would be the perfect replacement and best fit of any school in D1 IMO.

A metro and a basketball program.

Are you contending Southern Miss has any of those things?

Better off adding nobody if the choices are UAB and Southern Miss.

If the good ones say no and the bad ones are just that...bad options then might as well stay 11 and roll the dice with that

without going through a needed overhaul and if only one had to be selected it would be Boise State or BYU for me. BYU is already scheduling a good number of AAC teams now; makes sense.
