Wichita will add football and that will be that.

It does open up an opportunity for that to happen. At least on hypothetical paper.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'm for adding USM.
Southern Miss would get recruiting bump from AAC membership, as well as being able to hire better coaches. It's in the heart of AAC country, and we can recreate the Black and Blue Bowl series all over again.

Bball is a trainwreck. I'd like to play USM OOC in football on occasion, but no burning desire to have them in the conference.

Elsewhere, people are saying...."add Boise State or VCU"...do you really think Boise State wants to go thru that rigamarole again?
They're the best G5 in their section of the country.
Playing and losing to P6 teams would kill their brand.

I don't want to add a CUSA team but if we HAD to UAB football with their new stadium along with their rich basketball heritage and big TV market would be more attractive than USM.

This is Fun knee !!! The UConn hoops fans are celebrating big time !!! The UConn football fans are pissed off BigTime !!! It's civil war over there !!!

I think it's (the article) click bait myself. Football still drives the buss there ... They wont go without a place for their football team ... And AAC ain't letting them stay here Football only.
Funniest thing said on their board ... WHO COULD THE AAC GET THAT'S BETTER THAN UCONN ... IN FOOTBALL !!! 03-puke03-lmfao01-wingedeagle
Leave the AAC ... Play taps for your football team !!! 04-chairshot04-cheers

Only chance for real inclusion for many of the G5 schools is for the best of the group to form a singular conference and get it to a real P6 status.

This has probably been spun on here before but I'd like to see a revamped AAC:

Football view (pre bowl AP ranking last season in ( ) - only SEC and Big 10 had more teams ranked); [ ] are from top 100 all time college football program rankings per AP *12 of the 14 AAC programs

I’d be ok with Southern Miss too

Higher profile conference for them, they would have to elevate and spend more but it’s possible.

Tiger basketball rated 15-20 in every all time ranking by a mainstream media outlet that used useful criteria that I’ve seen-other than AP rankings which are blue bloods plus those that did well last year for the most part and you drop like a rock with a loss if not a money school and hard to lose your way out of Top 25 if a blue blood.

NO PART TIME SCHOOLS.

All sports members only. Try to keep it in 2 time zones.

Would be nice to see WSU restore their football program but it would take too long to get it up and running.

We could raid CUSA but few major TV markets in the group. Options are UTEP, Charlotte, UAB, Marshall, FIU, FA or USM. But UTEP would mean going to a third time zone. Long distance for non revenue sports to travel. Florida Int and Florida Atl add good TV markets but we already have two schools in the state.

Navy agreed to join but ONLY if they were in the west, so no chance of moving them to the east. They could just bolt since they are football only as it is. Maybe see if you can get them and Army full time.

Looking at 11 full-time members so realistically we could add 3 and go 14. Or if really ambitious maybe 16. BUT ONLY FULL TIME MEMBERS

Please, just say no to anyone from CUSA or the SB. There's not one school in either of those conferences that would raise the profile of the AAC, or draw much interest from ESPN or any other network for that matter, not one. And as far as the casual fan goes, there's nothing there to get excited about.

Agree. I would be like when The Great Midwest added Dayton in the 90s. Yawn.

Go big or do nothing. (And send ECU to CUSA where they belong.)

From a basketball stand point, it will be MOST DIFFICULT to replace UCONN with an equal.

But to be clear, this is 'lousy"'. It is not 'sky is falling'.

Football moves the bus mate and they hold zero resonance.

I'm not sure of the context of that comment, but sure football may move the bus in a lot of $$$ ways in the big picture of collegiate athletics, but one really has to treat each circumstance based on the particular school, fan base, city, etc. As a Boowen-ite, your comment doesn't surprise me in the least.

In the context of the city's sports history, most know that Tiger basketball is the front porch -- for the university and especially the city.....Hoop City, that is... hope you're excited about welcoming a new transcendent talent in JA Morant to Memphis. Mate.

The last 2 years, UConn basketball has finished 8th, and tied for 9th, in the AAC.

Their football is the worst in FBS. And they don't seem to care much.

They sit far out of the conference footprint.

Not that lousy.

no more viable candidates to keep it at 2 time zones and full time members only. Have to keep/make money generating revenue sports profile higher (football, basketball). The conference brand name is already national, not regional. Might as well maximize it. The days of structuring a P5 conference in the model of the current P5s is long gone. Those are legacies we will never catch up to. We will have to do it differently and in a more modern way.

When the new AAC contract begins, how much money will UConn be giving up to go to the Big East?

Our football team isn't that far removed from football mediocrity.
Now we think we can turn our noses up at schools like USM?

Do we remember that the Big East took a chance when they invited us for all sports? Our football was the worst in FBS then...and basketball was trending down.
I would like to see someone that we have history with be asked to join...and we have that in Southern Miss.
Membership would give them a higher profile to improve on the two major sports that mean something...football and basketball.

Not sure UConn is really giving up anything. The basketball only 10 Big East schools get around $4M per year from Fox. The all sports deal with ESPN for the AAC is around $7M per school. But UConn loses so much money on football each year, they can drop back down to FCS and save a lot of money.

As an independant they can play awhole lot of buy games. 8 or 9 away games a season instead of 6 or 7, getting around 1mil per game.
