MyBB Who is the beat writer for the Commercial Appeal now?
It looks like Drew Hill has left. Do they have somebody on board already?

He tweeted about the tigers 3 hours ago. Did this just happen?

No my mistake --- his Drew Hill CA account doesn't work anymore. He still works for the Commercial Appeal according to his other Twitter account. Or maybe I'm just confused now --- probably this.

Stated reasons do not always align with actual reasons and the stated reason makes little sense for an ambitious young man looking to make his mark on the national stage. I speculate there is more to the story. Regardless, I welcome more Tiger coverage.

No, he really did want to cover football. He's been doing both for the DM.

I enjoyed Drew’s story yesterday. But the Daily needs to get its act together. They put out 2 digital editions a day and some stories stay up for over a week. Not something a long time daily newspaper reader is accustomed to.

Why would it be a bad thing to keep a story up? Most of their stories up now are between 6 to 19 hours. The most read stories is based on clicks.

The new beat writer for the CA will be a intern who lives in Brentwood with his parents.

Why?

Clearly the CA recognizes the importance of Tigers athletics. How many schools already have separate FB and BB beat writers?

It's a good gig that often gets the writer to bigger and better things.

Both papers (whatever) seem about on an even keel when reporting ... And their articles often mirror each other. Kinda weird what's going down at the CA ... Not sure if they can these people or they leave on their own. Guess I'll let em run with it a little while longer ... STRANGE !!

RE: Who is the beat writer for the Commercial Appeal now?
The once proud and very good CA is now nothing more than a rag. It is edited in Nashville (so I have been told), is loaded up with local news from other parts of the state, and is no longer Memphis concentric. In my view, as a LONG time subscriber (still to this day, but digital/Sunday only) this outlet is doomed to failure under its current ownership.

The DM, on the other hand, is concerned with Memphis and State related topics only. It does not (yet) provide enough National news, but I understand that is planned to be added in the not distant future. Whether we like it or not, news outlets will be digital in only a few more years. We might be witnessing the evolution of its form and substance right here in Memphis.

It appears to me that the more gifted reporters and columnists are leaving the CA, and heading to the DM. I am glad to see the DM split the reporting duties and adding Drew Hill to its staff.

When I read the CA, WSJ and NY Times (before bias was taken in), a story was either updated daily or left out. Much as the National TV evening newscasts are now. This is very foreign to me but evidently not to the younger generation. And many stories in the DM HAVE been in news sections for several days and not necessarily in most read.

But to each his own. My traditional of reading a local daily newspaper from from to back with my morning coffee is a relic of the past.

WiseMan, I agree with you. And I, too, miss reading my daily newspaper with my morning coffee. Oh, well.
