Threads like this, Alternate History of College football and defunct college football/conferences give me an idea. We all should do a project together that includes the history of college sports, defunct schools including the ones closing today, defunct football teams, defunct conferences, oldest conferences like the KCAC that was created in 1890 with Kansas, Kansas State, Baker and others and maps of all the conferences with a timeline for which schools were at. I noticed that there were NJCCA schools part of conferences in the old days including the military and California schools, and the timeline of when schools started to break down to groups. Boise State before 1940 played 4 year schools when they were still JC. The defunct D2 WVIAA that disbanded a few years ago would be considered a major football conference before conferences like Big 8, ACC, PAC 12 and SEC were formed.
The links we could use for reference are like the one I gave above. This could give us more ideas about alternate history of College football like CalTech kept, grew like Stanford and followed their conference mates UCLA to the PAC 12.

NIU (7-0): 10th in BCS Standings - knocked off #15 Maryland, #21 Alabama, & Iowa St
Bowling Green (6-1): knocked off #16 Purdue & lost 24-17 to defending national champ Ohio St

Correction: ESPN GameDay has come to a MAC stadium twice: the other was 2016 Western Michigan vs Buffalo.
But geeze, I should watch that game you posted. I love seeing MAC games looking like that. Looking back, looks like 2003 was a glory year: Northern Illinois, Miami, and Bowling Green St all ranked.........Crazy. We need that this year in 2019!!!
ALSO, I didn't realize Miami finished #10 that year! Only loss: #8 Iowa in Iowa City.........Oh that was Ben Roethlisberger's last year. Damn.
