Now that a company can't do a 1k donation and buy 8 seats on the cheap as a write-off to give to clients and employees they've scaled back. Now those that used to get pushed to the edges are getting solid seats and we will have a lot more good, not great, inventory for new fans to start buying. We just need the dust to settle from the renewal process of existing ODAF and then we'll have room for the new fans or casual fans (as word gets out) that always assumed they couldn't get decent seats to fill in.

That's my glass half full view anyway. And that might take a season or 2 to happen. A good turnaround season will make that happen faster.

ODAF is playing the long game and 10-15 years from now, we'll see what ODU's potential is really looking like. I'd hazard a guess that revenues (counting membership fees) for a smaller amount of seats will significantly outpace revenues from allowing the traditional gray-haired donors to buy up all the seats (without membership fees). That sellout streak is completely irrelevant to paying the costs of running this program. It is not even a metric to pay attention to--especially at 21-22k seats. And I got ridiculously better seats in the stadium also and ODU got a lot more money for them from me as well. Win-win.

With all due respect, how is the sell-out streak irrelevant to paying costs. Sellouts mean more tickets sold, more tickets sold means more money and we need that money to pay the costs of running the program. Plus the sell out streak helps recruiting which helps on field performance which helps sell tickets and drive additional donations.

RE: Football Season Tickets
My respectful response is that the sellouts with no membership fees may not yield as much revenue as selling l fewer seats with corresponding membership fees. That may not be the case but I was just pointing out that the membership fees essentially doubled the revenue received for the same amount of seats in the old stadium.

RE: Football Season Tickets
Single Seat per game ticket prices will likely be close to $40-$50 for goal line to 25 yard line seats Also...they will likely bundle the ECU game with 1 or 2 other games. If they are less than $40 / game, then they are selling without the seat fee, and that will upset many ODAF season ticket holders that might be sitting a few seats away but paid $50 or more per game.

I paid what I paid when I paid because I 100% wanted tickets. It's the risk cost.

The 2018 ODAF Game Plan claimed there were 2825 ODAF members. This year the same document claimed 2433 members. I just checked the ODAF site and the current number is 1596. Now I don't know how these numbers relate to money raised or seats sold but such a drop in membership cannot be taken as a positive.

I would add that if you play around with the rank calculator, you can see that 1596 is not the true total since ties shorten the ranks. But that would have been the case for the total Dancing quoted last year at this time as well.

Good to know. That makes me feel a bit better. Though it sounds as if many ODAF members (of which there are approx 250 fewer) are buying far fewer seats. I'd love to know the number of seats sold at this point versus the last two years.

Yeah, maybe I'm different, but I am just not seeing that if someone next to me paid 1/2 the cost as I did just to be there for a game, I'm not seeing that as a negative. Those people are not supporting the program like I am. And I'd rather have someone be there at a discount than have an empty seat next to me. To each their own.

Yeah, who cares? We paid for the convenience of a guaranteed seat in our selected section. And it's a seat we can re-up for as long as we want. That comes with a cost I will gladly accept.

Understood....the point is the seat fee has some huge disadvantages and unintended consequences.

RE: Football Season Tickets
For me personally, it didn't help too much. I got seats comparable to what I had last season (though I had a much better selection choice than before), just due to the fact that I can't really justify spending $200 on seat membership fees. This season will be a test run, if I can get comparable seats in my preferred section I may hop off of the seat membership train.
