RE: 2020 C-USA Recruiting Thread
Here's a reasonable standard for ratings I'd like to see all recruiting sites follow:

In order to have a 3-star rating a recruit must have a few P5 offers.

I don't think I want to worship at the P5 altar that much.

It's not worshiping. It's logic. On average, P5 schools sign much higher quality athletes than G5 schools. Seems like 3-stars are now what 2-stars used to be.

As of now, North Texas has commitments from 2 Texas players (QB-Renfro & WR-Thompson) that were holding offers from Southern Miss. The recruiting staff at USM must see something in the players we are after.

Lol get over yourself, USM coaches aren't following who UNT coaches are recruiting...they're just offering kids who they think will fit their system who just so happen to have an offer from UNT among many others.

Not quite sure how you read that from my post. All I was inferring to was that USM targeted some of our recruits, so they must have felt they had some value.

Ive seen way to many recruits go from s 2 to 3 star or ever a 3 to 4 star when signing with a P5 program and a 4 star go down to 3 or a 3 down to a 2 when signing with a NP5.

All recruiting sites are is a money grab to those willing to pay for garbage information that will be in mainstream media within 7-14 days.

Do I follow recruiting, yes but I don't pay for any of it and get most of my info from independent places.

Dude- please. 247 doesn't even list 3 of our 7 commitments (including our top commitment thusfar). Rivals has them all listed.

We visit Texas so often, we HAVE to recruit it.

I usually don't trust the offers. I don't trust the stars either. However, it's the system we have.

USM isn't targeting your recruits. They are targeting kids who just happen to have offers from UNT along with many other schools. There's a distinct difference. You're implying that our staff is thinking "hey ya'll, this kid is a UNT recruit, so therefor we should go offer him."

I think you're missing my point.

Yes, recruiting sites are a money grab and definitely cater to schools who have the large subscribers/traffic.
Yes, recruiting sites SOMETIMES upgrade/downgrade ratings based on who they've committed/decommitted to. I've seen it happen a few times with USM recruits

My point is this: I put a LOOOOOOOOOOOT more stock in the types of offers recruits has vs. how many stars are by his name. If I'm establishing my own recruiting site then I'm basing my rating system on this: the more P5 offers a kid has the higher rated he should be. That is all. This isn't P5 worshiping, this is just logic. P5 schools tend to have wayyyyyyyyyy more re$ources/recruiting/staff/influence when it comes to attracting student athletes, so on average the more offers a kid has from P5 schools the more likely he's a legit D1 fb player.

Interestingly, in years past, it was 247 that was the most up-to-date ranking.

Although, my favorite is still ESPN.

How many P5 offers did Favre have? Guy? Collier? Just curious.

I wonder how many Terry Bradshaw had, before he went to LaTech.

Just curious.

Well, there's this thing called the "internet" and it wasn't around back then. In today's world, the Favres/Colliers/Bradshaws wouldn't be signing with USM or La Tech. They'd be signing with Texas, Alabama, Texas AM, Georgia, LSU, Clemson etc.

Up until the late 90s/early 00's, there was a good chance that USM signed the best recruits in the south that didn't sign w/ LSU, Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn...because those kids wanted a crack at the schools who didn't sign them and USM was more than likely on their schedule. Now days (thanks to internet) the kids who would normally sign w/ us are signing with Ole Miss, MSU, WVU, Vandy, Baylor, Kentucky, Louisville, TCU, Kansas, Missouri...as I said in an earlier post. There's no such thing as diamonds in the rough anymore. Every kid has a highlight reel that can be made INSTANTLY AVAILABLE to 7.5 billion people.

Frank Gore Jr., (a running Back from Killian, Miami) is a pretty good get for FAU. He's NFL RB Frank Gore's son and had offers from Miami and Kentucky (and USM).

Internet and the proliferation of camps get more and more kids in front of rating services. Also developmental programs like NPA out of Nashville are really good about promoting their guys. The Anthony Millers (0 star walk on to AA to pro) and Alan Crosses (0 star walk on to all conference to pro) are harder and harder to find.

I'm not implying anything. These players have committed to play for North Texas. They are our recruits. All I said was that both programs offered these kids, so they must have some value. This shouldn't be a point of argument. Maybe I should have used different wording or something.
