Daugherty in trouble at Enquirer?
Stupid take on Va Beach shootings by our local sportswriter....blaming it on the NRA. I wonder if The Enquirer's over the top liberal bias and continued circulation losses (any connection here?) may have him pandering to stay in good favor with the social bullies running things there.

This should probably be on the political forum...however, I'm thinking the reason why circulation is down is because everyone gets instantaneous news now, rather than waiting a day for updates.

True, but other factors likely contribute to the paper's declining readership. If they were just losing subscribership based on instant reporting their on-line publication and social media feeds would be doing well.

As to Daugherty, he has been an occasional political opinion in his articles for years. He has made no secret that his political leanings are left of center.

You are assuming they are capable of taking advantage of the instant update capabilities of social media. Not to mention everything is locked behind a paywall that most people don't know how to navigate around.

Hell, even breaking news and weather alerts are behind a paywall.

No effort=no reward

I don't care what Daugherty thinks, thus he doesn't bother me. Let him spout his drivel to the 20-30 people who actually pay for that crap.

I'm surprised that he didn't blame global warming... I mean... "climate change".

RE: Daugherty in trouble at Enquirer?
I don't know why everyone hates the Cincinnati Enquirer. I haven't read more than 10 articles online from it in the last ten years. But I also don't have some weird obsession with it.

People are allowed to have differing opinions on pretty much anything. If you don't want to read it, you don't have to?

There's been some weird thing that started in the past, I don't know, three years, where if you don't agree with something, you go online about it and make up a story about a non-story. Because if you don't agree with something, it's inherently bad and everything about is bad and it's failing and it's "Sad!"

Paul Daugherty wrote an opinion article (it's his job?) and now the story is Paul Daugherty wants to take my guns away/is in trouble at the Cincinnati Enquirer? I don't see how we got from Point A to Point E.

If you hate something so much, why seek it out? That's what I don't understand.

If everyone's so against it, why do they keep reading it? If I hated something as much as people seem to hate the Cincinnati Enquirer, it'd be out of my life.

I honestly have no idea what they do because I don't read it. I'm generally curious.

RE: Daugherty in trouble at Enquirer?
He must work for the Enquirer.

I think most people on this board dislike the Enquirer because it does little to cover its flagship school to the advantage of programs like OSU, UK, X, professional sports teams, any other big 10 team, etc. The Enquirer frequently treats UC like small change.

Not saying the Enquirer has to be a total homer, but a little positivity or coverage surrounding UC sports could go a long way.

Board posters in other cities with Urban campuses frequently report their hometown papers treat their resident universities like Gods.

Just sayin Enquirer... can I have a little help from my friends?

"He" doesn't work for the enquirer (I actually did have an interview with them almost ten years ago for high school sports stuff, but didn't get the job). I'm not really defending the paper, it's just so far away from what I care about that I had no idea what the fuss was about. I think there's bigger things that would get under people's skin than, claiming to be some sort of victim of the local paper not saying nice things about my school, as it doesn't give UC any more wins or losses.

I thought if it was really a big deal, just switch to The Athletic or something. Hoping it will change by complaining about it on a message board is like sending "thoughts and prayers" after a national tragedy, it's essentially worthless.

Probably? This thread is overtly political.
