Sounds like they are. If indeed this sells more tickets in addition to the increased concession sales then dropping prices really works out. Looks like something every stadium in the country should be trying. Attendance is not just a Tiger Football problem. Its running across every sport and every level.

Atl slashes concession prices.

They started it last year and it was a great move.

Btw, that stadium is unreal.

Well the Final Four is in Atlanta at The Benz so come on down and bring the team. We’ll all get cheap drinks and concessions.

A few colleges are going to this also. I believe Miss State has implemented it. Since ours are city of Memphis, it will never happen.

Yet another thing we can not control because we don't play on campus.

I think the City of Memphis keeps concession sales (I could be wrong).

They do. The university only makes money off of ticket sales.

not true with the new lease.

the UofM buys the rights to all on property parking for 50k and can then turn around and make money off selling parking spots assuming they make over 50k in parking fees charged.

the UofM also keeps money from game day programs and chair back seat fees.

Well, your humble opinion is wrong. I'm not complaining about the variety and quality of concessions (they are quite good), I'm complaining about the fact that we don't have monetary control over said concessions or get any monetary benefit. The whole premise of this thread is how other football programs are fighting lagging attendance by lowering concessions prices. We do not have that ability because we do not play on campus. That's just a fact.

I have been saying it for years. I don't eat anything at stadiums. I will not pay those ridiculous prices. We always eat before going in. Make the prices reasonable, and we would eat inside. Who doesn't like game day hotdogs and peanuts? Just not going to pay 5 bucks for a freaking hotdog. But I would buy 5, 1 dollar hotdogs.

Yep. Reduced attendance led SEC to allow alcohol sales in the stadium beginning this year. Most never thought that would happen in the SEC. Attendance is a real issue in all sports. Attendance costs are significant and the TV (and social media) experience is getting a lot better. Programs need to react to this, or the issue will only get bigger.

My understanding is that some sec schools might not choose to sell alcohol in the stadiums.

It's ultimately up to the schools to decide how they implement. I doubt this would ever have passed (or even been considered) if not for declining attendance.

Agree. It also might contribute to having fans stay for the entire game. Ole Miss and Bama fans are both bad about bugging out early.

It seems stadium vendors don't understand the law of diminishing returns.

With beer priced at $8 each (and assume the "cost" is $2 per beer) I might buy a beer or two. So, they make $12 off me (profits).

If beer were priced at $5 each, I'd have four easy. They still make $12 off me and likely get others to buy one at $5 when they wouldn't buy one at $8.

I can attest to this. I have bought maybe one beer in the entire time they have been selling at LB. I usually have about 5 or 6 before the game out in the TL.

ETA: OTOH, it does have the benefit of preventing the majority of the beer drinkers in the stadium from becoming "falling-down-drunk" and causing multiple scenes all over the stadium. Frankly, I prefer that to $4 or $5 beer.
