Deserves his own thread, no? Bryce Barnes, a graduate transfer from Wisconsin – Milwaukee, has committed to William & Mary. A 5–11 point guard.

Perfect fit. Strong academic, high involvement in community, team captain this past year, but missed a lot of season due to injury. Starting PG as a soph the prior year. Graduating in 3 years early this summer. Was on many all Illinois teams his senior year out of Chicago with Justin. Averaged an impressive 19+ points/gm at the Nike Peach Jam, so, he can be a scorer when needed. His hesitation and change of direction handle with the ball reminds me a lot of Hofstra's Juan'ya Green. Now, if that same kind of cat and mouse chemistry can develop with Nate and Andy.....Think this is a very underrated pickup/addition. Height mismatches on the defensive end is the only drawback.

His coach upon his grad transfer announcement:

Patrick Baldwin
@CoachBaldwin23

@BryceB_3
if there were a Hall of Fame for coachable players, you would be on the first ballot. Your value was never measured by numbers. You were exemplary in your everyday approach & embodied the student-athlete persona. A genuine young man to coach & be around! Good Luck “0”!

As a point of interest, Baldwin was his 3rd coach since originally committing to UWM, and yet he stayed with them throughout the changes.

Welcome to the Tribe family, Bryce!

Getting a real feel for the coaching staff's plan, now. Give a lot of kids who have under performed, due to injury a chance to play healthy and show their true stuff.
If we can keep them healthy, their could be some nice surprises.

If the highlights are a true indicator, not bashful about driving to the basket:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vawR38SsuL...e=youtu.be

I didn’t like the firing of Tony. I liked the hire of Dane. I didn’t like the transfers and decommit.

But, today, Nathan comes back, and an experienced driving PG transfer is brought in. Can’t help but think that this could be an interesting season ahead. Won’t Nathan love playing with that kind of PG?

There is some irony re: the players that left. It allowed Dane to do his makeover in a quicker fashion without running guys off the team. It allowed Dane to address present and future issues. Dane may be able to install his offensive and defensive schemes fairly quickly. Last year’s chemistry issues may disappear. The players that left may soon be forgotten.

Dane is going to be bringing in a different type of player than Tony did. That’s fine.

And kudos to the AD on all the PR stuff that was done today.

Next year may not yield great results, but it is anticipated again, and that’s a good thing.

Given all that has transpired, and the options available, I like this PG pick-up. IMO, Dane has contained the AD’s dumpster fire, and here’s hoping that it goes out soon.

The treatment of Tony Shaver and his staff remains an open wound.

Losing Chase and Brown will be difficult to overcome. Dane got a very late start and I'm not thrilled with how he has plugged some holes, but I do like Bryce and wish he and Brown were the two additions for 2019. We'd have been in a great situation. Water under the bridge. At least we're acting like we care at this point.

The perfect addition to the team! Watching the videos of this young man, who was captain at UWM, indicate he may change the entire persona
of the team. An exciting development for the Tribe.

5'11 but he has a decent build otherwise and that weight along with his speed allows him to push through traffic much easier than some others.

He’s gonna be a pinball and tough to stop. I think the Green comparison from a few years ago at Hofstra is on point. A pick and pop with VV and pick and roll with NK will be really hard to stop especially if we can get a deadly shooter spotting up behind the arc to keep the D honest and make them pay for helping. Could work really well in Dane’s motion offense.

Not sure how well he can play D but having Nate and/or Harvey in the back to protect the rim is huge.

He physically reminds me a little of Adam Payton although I seem to recall Adam being a bit taller and stronger.

Kudos to the new coaching staff on a string of positive news. Things were looking rather dire very recently.

I hope they do the Green/Gold scrimmage at homecoming again this year, I'm going to be very curious for a sneak peek at the new circus.
