I would have assumed he was, but, just recently they had 2 scholarships available and had 3 outstanding offers. Seems like they were willing to go into this season with him still being a walk-on if those offers would have been accepted. Maybe they knew they really weren't in the running for some of those guys so they weren't in danger of having them accepted? Who knows. If that's the case though, and you really want to give him a scholarship, why not just give him one and be done with it?

Especially when 2 scholarships popped open when Key and Richie transferred. Seemed to me to be the perfect opportunity to just give him one at that time, but they made several JUCO offers with the new open slots.

RE: 2019-20 MAC Basketball Transfers (Updated)
Updates: (I've fallen behind...sometimes life gets in the way of our passions!)

Teyvion Kirk (Joliet West HS) of Ohio has announced his transfer to Colorado State.

Sylvester Ogbonda of Georgia Tech has announced his transfer to Ohio. Ogbonda was a 3* recruit from National Christian Academy but originally from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He's a 6'10", 238 lb Center. He played 3 seasons (RS Junior) at GT and averaged 1.8 ppg last season (his best scoring average, but they're all around 1 ppg). Played 23 games as a freshman, 9 as a sophomore, and 10 last season with 0 starts. I'm assuming he's had injury issues and has already burned a redshirt year. He very well could be a grad transfer, but it's not reported anywhere.

Maliq Ellison (Eastern Michigan) has announced his transfer to Saginaw Valley State. Ellison is the 2nd MAC player to transfer this season to SVS which is a Division II NCAA school. They are the DII version of Tallahassee CC, I suppose....

TJ Clifford has announced he will transfer from Western Michigan. No announcement yet as to where. Clifford was a 2* recruit from Downers Grove South HS. He is listed as a 6'7", 215 PF. Sophomore. He played 9 games as a freshman and 21 as a sophomore (0 starts) averaging 0.7 and 1.2 ppg, respectively.

Yeah, I'm both surprised and not surprised. Count me in the camp that thought he was just simply over college ball and/or not getting paid. In the back of my mind (and I think I said it on this board somewhere, sometime) I figured his goal was the NBA (as opposed to simply just playing pro) therefore going to Europe was off the table (but I couldn't be certain).

I figured, if his only goal was the NBA and he saw playing pro overseas as a fallback option, then it made sense to come back because overseas will always be there and he'll easily find a job somewhere. Transferring made no sense since he's going in to his senior season and sitting out a season would be pointless for him.

Ultimately, I don't think I was wrong. I mean, there's room in 5% for that 5% to come true. Which is why I didn't say 0%. I'm just glad I get to watch him one more season but, for his sake, I hope he makes it through the season healthy (and to be honest, he's got a great health track record so that has to be in his favor).

Geno seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. I think he made the right decision. Graduate or come close. Best fall back position.

You don’t have to be “perfect” to NOT get arrested at least twice and suspended. I would suggest there is quite a broad range of behavior in between.

His behavior hardly suggests “a good head on his shoulders”.

He should be kicked off the team. He is a loser.

So Klake, given your two posts, it appears the only levels of behavior appear to be “perfect” and “loser”. That hardly seems rational.

RE: 2019-20 MAC Basketball Transfers (Updated)
Updates:

Akron PF Emmanuel Olojakpoke (RS JR) announced his transfer to Utah Valley.

Gavin Bizeau of Duquesne has announced he is transferring to Toledo. Bizeau is a 6"11 Forward from Plainfield, IN. He was a 4* recruit. He has played one season at Duquesne, playing in 20 games (0 starts) and averaging 1.3 ppg. He played sparingly for Duquesne so there's not much to go on regarding his stats.

He made the right decision. Stayed in school and was not swayed by outside influences. That is pretty level headed to me.

RE: 2019-20 MAC Basketball Transfers (Updated)
NIU Update:

Nathan Scott (Olney Central College) is transferring to NIU. As a JUCO transfer, he will be eligible to play this upcoming season as a junior. Scott is a 6'8", 215 Forward from Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville (2* recruit). He started in and played in 31 games averaging 10.8 ppg. He shot 55.7% from the field, 38.2% 3PT (29-76), and 76.9% FT. Scott also averaged 5.7 rebounds per game.

OCC went 25-6 this season averaging 98.7 ppg. In the post-season, they lost in the Quarter Final Play-off Game (their first game of the post-season) to Kaskaskia College (Centralia) who then eventually went on to win their first round game in the 1st Round of the D1 Championship before losing in the 2nd round. OCC lost the game to Kaskaskia by a score of 94-91. Scott started, played 16 minutes, scored 5 points and grabbed 2 rebounds.

Interestingly, when I saw this posted on Facebook, the article stated that Scott was receiving the "final scholarship available". I presume this means that Hankerson is getting a scholarship because it appeared they actually had 2 scholarships but just haven't publicly announced Hankerson's yet or something.

If nothing else, NIU now has some serious size on the team in Noah McCarty (6'7"), Lacey James (6'9"), Nathan Scott (6'8"), Chris Johnson (6'6" - rebounder extraordinaire), Justin Lee (6'7") and Keenan Cole (6'7")
