RE: 2018-2019 SBC Avg. Attendance
Some of those basketball numbers seem highly suspicious to me.

And I wonder if Cajun fans who have been to a lot of their home baseball games this season would really say this season hasn't lessened actual butts in seats.

Paid attendance. Softball paid attendance was actually about 1800 as 4 days of tournament play at home where two games were played they reported zero attendance for one of the two games.

I was running the totals earlier this year and finished the count through the end of the season. If you take the days where we played two games in early season tournaments and used that attendance for both games that day Cajun softball would have averaged 1814 per game. If you inserted instead the lowest reported attendance for any game this year into those four games where we reported zero attendance, the per game average would have been 1793 per game. Either of those numbers would have put them fifth in average attendance or sixth in total attendance nationally.

In another perspective, Cajun softball would have come in second for baseball per game attendance.

RE: 2018-2019 SBC Avg. Attendance
I think out men's basketball attendance looks right. Home conference tournament game + 2 CIT games raised our average quite a bit I'm sure. Having 6 home games while students were on Christmas break brought it down too.

Blows my mind how literally every single time the topic of attendance comes up 99% of people don't understand the concept of paid attendance vs. actual attendance.

Everyone seems to be struggling with declining attendance. Even P5 programs are having trouble maintaining their attendance numbers. Young people today just aren't as crazy about football as prior generations have been, and student attendance has dropped considerably at many schools. Maybe it's the effect of these students having played soccer for years. Whatever the cause, this trend in attendance isn't a good sign of things to come for any of us.

Soccer? Mama Boucher is that you?

How about access to watch games on TV or now mobile devices having a larger impact.

It's the effects of playing Minecraft and Fortnite from 6pm to 10pm every night.

Why would an adult want go to a football game when you can play video-Legos all night??

There are too many options of other things to do besides just attending sports. Plus as others said, you can see all games online or on tv these days. Even 15 years ago lower tier P5 programs were lucky to get a couple games on cable.

App's FB average attendance took a huge hit when the championship game was in sleety/rainy/windy weather. I think it went from 24k down to 21k after the CCG.

Amazing that Troy is in the top 4 in every category when the university is in the smallest community in the SBC. Troy city has 19,000 people and pike county has 33,000 people

Not a lot to do in Troy, and sports are free for students and right on campus.

RE: 2018-2019 SBC Avg. Attendance
There are a number of Troy alumni and fans in the Mobile area that make the trip up there. When Troy plays us at home, the visitor section is full and then some. They are a lot louder than our fans. Our basketball numbers should improve next year. The team will be better under coach Riley and Auburn will play us at Mitchell Center.
