A random role player at UIC bailed last year to go pro overseas, I'm sure he could, but if his goal is the NBA, I'd think staying in the US as long as he can would be the best move.
Get your degree first then if you have eligibility left, jump ship and go for it.
If no other student is held to this standard then why should a basketball player?

His degree is free...and offers on the job training

So?

His best chances to succeed at what he wants, lie within going back or a transfer

No other student is held to this standard...but most other students don't have the same opportunity he does

I say that to everyone. you have gone this far, finish the job. It is a fall back plan. If he flops in BBall, he has a degree. If he flops in BBall and has no degree less options. I am not telling him not to try but have a better fall back plan.

I give the kid credit.

But I don't think he is ready. Tough situation for him, but plenty of guys have made it to the league out of the MAC. Maybe he should concentrate on the present and let the future take care of itself.

Regarding last year:
"Advice he received from NBA personnel included working on his strength and shooting efficiency." I think it still applies.

2017-18 FG% - 47.1%
2018-19 FG% - 49%

2017-18 3P% - 33.9%
2018-19 3P% - 41.4%

Plus, I don't think he can get any stronger considering his size and his style of play. He clearly worked his ass off last off season to improve his shooting (albeit, his FT% took a big dip and I don't understand why but that's not going to scare off an NBA team).

The guy plays as hard on the court as anyone and is fearless. He even improved his passing this past year. Honestly, I don't see how he can get any better that would be a huge improvement.

Stay another year, get better and get a degree, or at least progress toward one.

Here are his options:

1. Stay and work/get degree
2. leave and play in G league - What would salary be in G-League and weigh it versus potential degree
3. Leave and play in Europe. See G league notes.

He could return to get degree later without a scholarship.

If you can make 200k next year in Europe or G league, got to think about it.

making NBA is gravy. prepare for the downside.

NBA Draft Combine is May15-19 in Chicago and includes 63 top prospects and Geno is not one of them.

Despite the fact I'm rooting for German ---- honestly, that's why you'd never make it as an NBA Scout. Tere's still room for continued improvement in those numbers. If he could improve that much in one year, why is he incapable of more incremental improvement. Especially since better numbers would make him more appealing?

Considering his size and his style of play, when it comes to the NBA, he needs to get stronger.

In addition to being prejudiced, I don't believe the MAC coaches qualify to be NBA scouts, but even those guys believed there were at least five players who played harder or better based on German being Second-Team.

While I agree 100% with Chihuskie's advice, I doubt German is using our opinions to make his decision.

POLITICS. 63 top prospects, and German isn’t one of them? He was invited last year and was better this year than he was before. I guess they want all new blood at the combine regardless of talent?

I believe he only worked out for a couple NBA teams, he was not in the combine.

Right! He wasn’t in the combine last year. He worked out for Bulls and Bucks last year. I will be surprised if he’s not back at NIU

I think we may have seen the last of Eugene German as a Huskie. Even though he’s not projected to be drafted. He is being projected to be invited to summer camps as a free agent. If he doesn’t make an NBA team, he will probably go overseas or G-league.

Maybe things have changed but the rumor was that he would return unless he got a NBA offer.

You just get the feel that he’s checking out on NIU basketball. Plus they lost key players. “Rebuild again” for what could be in his mindset . Just speculating. Might be smart for him to get his degree .

Agreed. At this point, I honestly do not care all that much if he returns

Replace him...move along Geno to the Ukraine pro league.

Dang, lots of hate. Personally, I'd love the chance to watch him one more season in Dekalb, not too many pure scorers like that come through. But I won't fault him for starting to make some money.
