One beatdown of a sweep by the Bruins over the Canes. I definitely didn't envision this series going out in a beatdown like this.

Boston is just too hot right now, I don't think steamrolling us was an easy thing to do this year, so I fully expect them to put the hurt on whomever they face from the West.

God forbid Boston goes four months without a championship!

The first game of the finals won't be until Memorial Day, that's well over a week thr Bruins will have gone without playing. They're red hot and will have time to rest and heal, but you never know how a team reacts to time off.

"Canes did well until that series--still a good year for them overall.
Rooting for Blues in West. It's been a while for them.

Boston in Finals.

The Blues are blowin' up the 2nd period.
The announcer said they are leading the Sharks in shots on goal 15 to 1.
They're putting the bite on the sharks.
(But...I've seen comebacks from 3 down before ...so....)

Yeah, Sharks have refs in pocket, so you never know.

Blues win 5-0 (no empty net goals in there). Blues crushed them. The announcers said the Sharks were "demoralized".
Blues have outscored the Sharks 7 to 1 since the "hand pass goal" in game 3.

I'd love to see the Blues finally hoist the Cup. But there's a lot more hockey to be played.

Sharks have lucked their way into the conference finals. Hope it finally catches up with them. I agree, would love to see St. Louis gain the cup. But Boston will be ready.

RE: 2018-19 NHL Thread
I would have thought that the Bruins have a great advantage going into the finals. They have played only 17 games in the playoffs and their last series wasn't too draining. They will have had 12 days off before game 1 of the finals- a good chance to rest and get healthy. IF the Blues win tonight, they will have played 19 games and will only have 6 days rest.

However, an announcer said that the last 6 teams that had the longer rests before the finals, all lost the finals. That's very counter-intuitive, but is something that bears watching. Maybe they lose their timing with such a long layoff?

It's a rematch...after 49 years: St. Louis vs. Boston.
An announcer said that St. Louis was dead last in the NHL on Jan. 3rd, and now they are in the finals. Are they a team of destiny?
I'm listening to player interviews. They seem loose, confident, eager, bonded as a team. Not bad for a "buncha jerks".

RE: 2018-19 NHL Thread
from stltoday.com:

"The Blues are the only remaining team from the league's first expansion in 1967-68 not to have won the Stanley Cup and they have played more games than any other NHL team without winning the Cup. They did it with an interim coach in Craig Berube and a fourth-string goalie, Jordan Binnington, who barely figured in the team's plans at the start of the season but whose outstanding play in the second half of the season allowed the rest of the team to regain its composure and go on a club-record 11-game winning streak."

It's time to get this trending: #TeamOfDestiny

Vegas mighta taken them-we'll never know, but I'm happy for St. Louis in this case. I'll root for the Blues-it's the better story.

Tarasenko, Blues advance to 1st Stanley Cup since 1970:
Vladimir Tarasenko nets his eighth goal of the playoffs, helping the Blues dispatch the Sharks 5-1.

RE: 2018-19 NHL Thread
I was reading an article at USA Today. Their 3 experts say: Boston in 6 games, Boston in 7, Boston in 6.

That's reasonable. Boston has experience. A number of Bruins were on the team that won the Cup in 2011. So the edge goes to the Bruins.
But really, has anything been predictable about the Blues in the past few months? Who can say for sure?
I say the Blues are the #TeamOfDestiny

Let's drop the puck in 2 1/2 hours and see what happens !!!

PS. I just looked at a Sporting News article. Of their 8 experts: 5 are picking the Blues and 3 the Bruins. They all see it being a 6 or 7 game series.
PPS. Sports Illustrated's experts split: 2 for Boston, 2 for St. Louis.
PPPS. ESPN has the analysis of 2 experts: 1 guy says the Blues in 6; 1 gal says the Bruins in 7

A few experts have said that the physicality of the Blues might be a difference maker in disrupting the Bruins attack.

We'll see. Puck drops in a few minutes.

The Athletic writes in early January - while 31st of 31 teams - the Blues finalized a tentative deal to send Brayden Schenn to the Bruins pending ownership approval. Ownership asked to hold off another week or two.

Tonight they play for the Stanley Cup.

Unbelievable.

Boston's defense was suffocating in the 2nd and 3rd periods. 37 (Boston) shots to 20 (St. Louis).
OK, we're underway. Lots more hockey to play.

The Blues Battle Back- Gunnarsson scores in OT and ties the series 1 to 1. They are over the Stanley Cup jitters. We got a series!

The Enterprise Center in STL was sold out for games one and two. 19000 each game came to watch on the big screen.
