I can say, as someone who has followed NKU, that I really liked Vogt's game and felt him and Jalen Tate were the two players last year with games that could transfer to a hire level. His stats aren't overwhelming because his minutes and uesage was low.

Probably a solid backup big guy worst case scenario. Definitely not anything throw a parade over though.

RE: Chris Vogt transfers to UC
He's a body at least. Has good size, moves pretty well and can have a major impact on defense. Still developing an offensive game. He had a lower FT% then Nsoseme last year, so that tells you his ability to shoot jump shots. Given the timing I wonder if Nsoseme transferred because he knew Vogt was coming.

He was too skinny last year. Putting on muscle will help him on offense and rebounding. His rebounding percentage was good, but I doubt he can maintain it at the higher level of play without putting on quite a bit of muscle.

We needed a center and Vogt was probably the best option available this late in the recruiting cycle. The main concern is can he get a waiver as we need a center immediately. If he can get a waiver I'd say he's right around replacement level for Nsoseme, maybe a slight improvement. Passes better then a lot of our recent bigs, his assist rate of 1.8 per 40 minutes is pretty comparable to Tre Scott's 1.9 per 40 minutes last year. For reference Brooks assist rate was only 0.7 per 40 - as was Kyle Washington in his senior year.

He's not going to be more than a stop-gap option and a tertiary contributor, but the kid dropped 20 twice last season (something I'm not sure Nsoseme could do against similar competition in two years) and had a significantly higher block rate, a similar rebound rate, and much better passing statistics than Nsoseme. He's a better player right now, with the same amount of eligibility left...but I need to be cognizant of who is posting.

Playing against competition who he was just much bigger then. At this level he's going to get pushed around a lot more and have trouble maintaining the same rate or even close to it. He also fouls a ton, 7.7 per 40 minutes (Brooks was 5.7 per 40). Looking at game splits against high level competition: against UC he had 2 rebounds and 5 points in 22 minutes. Against UCF he had 2 rebounds, 2 points, 1 block and 5 fouls in 8 minutes. Texas Tech he had 0 points, 0 rebounds, 1 block, 2 TO's and 2 fouls in 4 minutes.

I'd say he's about equal to Nsoseme, maybe even slightly worse. But if he can put on muscle he can be better then Nsoseme was because of his size.

Kind of strange if this is why Coach posted a dancing Bearcat...taking a player from your former team.

I imagine it would have gone over well here if Mick had landed Brooks and posted a dancing Bruin beforehand.

I know you picked these games to highlight because they were the three best teams they played last year. But lets see:

Texas Tech: #1 in Kenpom D
UCF: 7'6" rim protector
UC: We all know the story here.

IMO it's not exactly fair to criticize a kid for not playing well against elite defenses, especially 2PT% (TT #3, UCF #13, UC #20).

RE: Chris Vogt transfers to UC
So in the 5 games he got over 20 minutes, he averaged

23.4 min
12 pts
6.6 reb
1.6 blk

So he is definitely capable of at least being a productive player for us. I am not going to say he is the savior or anything, but we have alot of scholarships open right now and never heards to add a 7-1 body.

It is not a splashy transfer, but it seems to be an area where our team now lacks depth. I assume he will be a stop gap for a year until CJB has time to recruit. I assume he will also be valuable in getting CJB's style, program philosophy in place.

With the way CJB stretches the floor, Vogt has to be pretty athletic for his size?

It's the only teams he played that are worth making the comparison. The next best team NKU played was probably Wright State or UMBC. I wasn't focusing on FG%, but overall stats. At UC he's going to be facing quality teams night in and out.

Like I said, I think he can be at least worthy of being a backup, but for the short term he might be replacement level for Nsoseme. Maybe less then replacement level honestly, because of he is too skinny. Hopefully he can at least get a waiver and play next year and give us a body.

Vogt is not a big deal but losing Nsoseme was no biggy. Call it a Mexican Standoff.

Hard for him to be a stop gap for CJB’s 1st year since he’s going to have to sit his first year. He’s a sit 1 play 2 guy so he won’t help with this coming seasons depth.

Only time will tell what he develops into after probably sitting out a season. But comparing his sophomore year to Brooks sophomore year his stats are better. They are apples to oranges I know because Brooks competition was tougher and he played less minutes 340 than Vogt 450. But Vogt averaged 4.5 pts to Brooks 2.6. Brooks had 20 blocks and 8 assists. Vogt had 42 blocks and 20 assists. Vogt field goal percentage was .577 to Brooks .494. Brooks had much better foul shooting .552 to Vogt's terrible .385.
Once again these are their 2nd year stats; Skyblade will be around in 3-2-1 to point out the errors of my way. Just my opinion but Vogt's potential upside is much greater than Nsoseme.

I mean you pointed out the errors yourself. Comparing to low level conferences doesn't really work. Look at Broome, star at low D1 and rarely broke UC's starting lineup. At this point it's all opinion, but numbers vs low D1 teams compare to high D1. If I was choosing, I'd take Nsoseme without hesitation, mostly because we need a center next year and Vogt has to sit. If Vogt gets a waiver I'd still take Nsoseme over him, due to Vogt's lack of muscle, but they'd be at least closer to equal in my mind.

Lmaooo, the numerous attempts to spin this transfer as the slightest bit of a positive are hilarious.

This signing reeks of DESPERATION. His offers out of high school were Kent State, Western KY, Tulsa, and Midd Tenn St. He should be playing at the mid-major level - not for a program with any aspirations of earning an at-large NCAA bid within the next 4 years.

He averaged 4 points per game playing in a LOW MAJOR league full of dying programs with little semblance of talent.

Can Brannen not sign a single player who didn't grow up within 5 minutes of a Skyline Chili???

Chris Vogt Freshman Highlights 18-19 Season

Edit: ^^^Just watched his highlights. Okay, I'm on board. He could turn out to be halfway decent.

The beautiful thing about sports is opinions are worth less than a cup of coffee before the games are played. Give me an exalted opinion when the season is done.😎

Seems like a solid depth add. With the amount of scholarships available seems like a smart addition in the sense that the coach gets a familiar player to work with. Need some impact guys soon. Cumberland returning would be huge.
