Article about the transfer portal. According to the article, 700+ FBS players have entered the portal (at least that have been made public and reported by 247).

So if FBS teams know they might be operating at 5-6 scholarships fewer than they planned, will we start seeing more FBS teams over-signing and reneging on scholarships more often like airlines that overbook flights to account for attrition? Seems to me that when there's more freedom for players to abandon programs, programs will feel more free to abandon players.

Well, if that happens, at least we ended the oppression of guys like Justin Fields and Tate Martell having to actually earn their starting roles.

The hard cap pf 25 initial scholarships per year really prevents oversigning. Blueshirting is being phased out as well. They'll really need to figure out some way fpr coaches to replace those players lost through the portal. Perhaps have an incoming transfer not count against the 25 cap on a one-to-one ratio against the number that have transferred out.

Apparently very limited, having played in only 3 games with the Tigers. He transferred from Blinn Community College before entering Memphis.

RE: SBC Transfer Portal
I imagine that most players that transfer are doing so in an attempt to get some playing time. Unless they make a really good choice and transfer to a school with a tremendous need at their position, i think most of these transfers will again find themselves 2nd or 3rd on depth charts. For the most part, there's not a lot of difference in talent between a P5 second stringer and a G5 second stringer, and barring injury, these transfers will have a hard time passing up a guy who signed with the program originally.
