Always loved Okie St's willingness to play at G5 schools, but Tulsa makes far more sense than Mobile, AL and Mt Pleasant, MI.

Okie St's live mascot is a classic.

Wait, I thought Tulsa was closing or dropping to D3?

Well done for both schools

OSU has been playing schools like Central Michigan, South Alabama, and Troy because they can get 2-for-1s from them for less than it would cost to buy home games. It's worked out for them more often than not, but they've lost some of those games.

They're glad to play Tulsa four times in Stillwater. But, their biggest fan base is in Tulsa. So, they're happy to play a series with an equal amount of games there. OSU will have a bigger crowd at the games in Tulsa.

It's a good deal. OSU gets home dates and short road trips with winnable games. Tulsa gets money and home games against a local P5 for their athletic department. Win, win.

When that happens there's a clause in the contract that lets OSU replace them with Upper Iowa.

They might be in the same conference before that series is completed.

Great thinking ahead by the OSU AD.

This could develop into a nice rivalry. They are playing a 2 for 1 2019 (Tulsa), 2020 and 2021 (Stillwater) already. This starts a 8 game series 2024-31. So 11 meetings in 13 years.

I like it. Good local series. Too many of the local G5 vs P5 local series are going away (e.g., CU-Colorado State is finishing up, and a few years ago SJSU-Stanford had a long series; we have already forgotten LSU-Tulane, Ole' Miss-Memphis among others)

But it's hard to see many starting up. UCF probably could have started one with Florida if like Tulsa they'd have nurtured it with 2 for 1. But beyond that the move to more conference games, plus a P5 counter 9th or 10th game doesn't leave much flexibility anymore, so these local games are infrequent.

But good for the Cowboys to set this up.

Oklahoma State would be a P5 that we could get to come to Springfield every once in a while if we moved up to FBS.

The two schools have played each other a total of 74 times soon to be 75. It is the most played series for Tulsa despite only 4 games this century (Arkansas is similar at 73). OSU has only played OU more. Tulsa and OSU played every year from 1926 to 2000 except a ten year span in the mid 60s to 70s. Up till 1990s the record was extremely close and would likely have been even had OSU been willing to play the Glen Dobbs coached Hurricane when they were setting NCAA records and had Heisman runner ups.

The series halted because OSU didn't want home and homes (same for that decade in the 20th century, their record in Tulsa is not good. A couple AD's caved for 2-1s but Tulsa held strong this time.

Tulsa is 73 miles from OSU, 110 miles from Arkansas, and 120 from OU.

Foreverandever you tend post a lot of Tulsa propaganda on this board. You say OSU and Tulsa played every year from 1926 to 2000, except for a 10 year period in the 60'sand 70's. That is not totally accurate, there were some other years they did not play, and some of those games were 2 for 1 games, but I will give you a pass on that.

According to the Tulsa World the series record is in favor of OSU 40-27-5. Of course that does not mean much since they started playing in 1914. You say it would have been closer if OSU had been willing to play the Glenn Dobbs coached Hurrricane when they were setting records and had Heisman runnerups. Well news flash for you. OSU did play those Dobbs coached record setting Hurricane teams with Heisman runnerups. OSU's record against Dobbs coached teams was 4 wins and 1 loss.

You say OSU's record playing in Tulsa is not good. The last time Tulsa defeated OSU in Tulsa was 1998, 21 years ago.

Tulsa's record in Stillwater is really not good. Do you know the last time Tulsa won a game at OSU? Well I will tell you, it was 1951....almost 70 years since TU won a game at OSU. That is not a good record.

Unless OSU is planning on playing just 6 home games a year, this is going to limit their chances of scheduling a OOC P5 school every year. What's their game plan here?

Looks like their strategy is 7 home games in odd years (when they have 5 Big XII home games), and 6 home games in even years.

The Tulsa series is home in odd years, road in even years.

They also have other legit OOC home-and-homes scheduled in the future, with Arizona State, Arkansas and Oregon. Those are road in odd years, home in even years.

It's a viable strategy.

Lol

Every year from 1920-2000 except for 1967-1975 and 78,79, 80 or the span I specifically pointed out from the late sixties into the seventies.

http://www.winsipedia.com/games/oklahoma-state/vs/tulsa

Other than the 1930s when all the games were played entirely in Tulsa there were no 2-1s till these last 6. I know I was there for a bunch of them and remember the weak excuse given by Simmons for not wanting to play anymore after 2000 cause Keith Burns hurt poke feelings.

You brought the same garbage about Dobbs to the aac board I ran it down there, but save to say that once Dobbs got rolling (65,66 being NCAA record years after non winning seasons for the start of the decade) and put you down 61-14 you suddenly didnt want to play anymore. Next year he should have beat you in Stillwater but lost by a field goal was the last time OSU wanted to play, till you thought we were bad again. Those two games in the seventies were against solid TU teams when you thought you would get cupcakes and suddenly it's another 4 years before you wanted to play.

We have played you 2x in Tulsa since 1998. While we have played in Stillwater 4x. So we have played 6x but 21years makes you look better right?

It's not just in Football, you do it in Basketball too where you refused to play Tulsa during the late 90s and early 2000s. Or this most recent series where we beat you all 3 times and suddenly you don't want to play.

OSU's colors should be yellow, right across the belly. We'll see what happens now you play us on fair terms. Of course you wanted 2-1's as you pointed out that's your best chance to beat Tulsa where the home cooking refs make sure phantom calls happen just right.

It's a good series, glad you all quit being chicken to play it.

I guess you will tell us those 70 years of losing were down years for Tulsa.
