RE: Brannen's staff
Patience, my friends. Brannen took over late, and most of the good assistant coaching hires were already made by the time he got here. The future is bright.

Excited!

I am trying to stay patient, but if we don't have this staff fogured out by next week I may be in meltdown mode. I really just don't understand what the holdup is, unless he is waiting on an NBA guy who is in the playoffs. Just seems like a simple yes or no, if you want the job or not. Maybe I am oversimplifying it.

Yes. You are oversimplifying.

For his NKU assistants, they just hired a head coach within the last week. So that is still settling out.

If he's aiming higher, there's probably negotiation going on and potentially an attempt to retain them at their existing school.

Even that Blueblood out in Westwood whose coach was hired a week prior to ours has managed to hire exactly as many assistants as we have thus far.

Probably best to wait until we lose our first game of the season before hitting meltdown mode.

RE: Brannen's staff
No major announcement here - sorry. When Chad Brendel was on with Mo this week, the day of the football recruiting announcement, he said he thinks we will see more actuon on the assistant coach front this week. Just thought I'd pass that on. I'm not worried and I trust that Brannen knows what he is doing and what he is looking for. After the transfer and reooening of committment news this past week, some news of progress will be welcome

Brannen's staff
I'm going to venture a guess other guys are in the hiring process but the school requires a background check. I'm not concerned at this moment... just get the right coaches in here.

Is Der Marrr under consideration by Brannen for a full-time coaching spot now that he has his degree? If he isn't I think he should be...

I totally agree. Dermarr seems to have a great attitude and a vast knowledge to pass on to young recruits.

Would also seem like someone who could potentially relate to recruits. Obviously, nothing’s certain but I’d think it’s an area he may be good at.

RE: Brannen's staff
Saw mention that Jayson Gee the veteran associate coach of Winthrop under Pat Kelsey is joining the staff. Don't know if there is any truth to it. Head coaching experience at Longwood but not a very good record. Positive he is credited when at Ohio as an assistant in developing Gary Trent.

Edit: Reason I might doubt this is that Jake Luhn who already has been hired as an assistant or Director of basketball operations was an assistant under Gee at Longwood before coming to NKU last year.

RE: Brannen's staff
NKU has announced their new coaches and best as I can tell from this article there are no holdovers from Brannen's staff. I'm not in the mood to research further, but I'm guessing that means we'll see several from his staff coming to UC for better or worse.

Ok. We have a staff now. Let's see how they coach and recruit.

Basically nothing to get excited about, but we are just going to have to trust JB for a while until he gets things going the way he wants to. Not really any other options. Hopefully they didn't blow the budget with these guys though.

I'd rank Gee's resume ahead of Larry Davis's. The fact that Kelsey would hire him out of the same conference is a positive in my book.

And Morris was at Nevada with Musselman in player development and he played at Stanford. Maybe he might connect with one of the many players Nevada has in the transfer portal.
