Agreed. The motley amalgamation of ACC schools that they have zero historical ties with has harmed the Irish schedule. Purdue and MSU should be annual games, and Michigan two years on and two years off, to keep it special.

Then again, as someone else said in this thread, nobody at Notre Dame cares, or is even aware of, what i think.

The part I hate the most about the ND deal is that schools they ought to be playing annually like BC and Pitt are just part of the rotation.

I really wish the Big Ten and Notre Dame could have come to some terms back when the league had 11 members. Figure out what companion schools in the Northeast ND wanted and closed the deal. Back out Nebraska as #12 and add ND, BC, Pitt, Cuse, and Rutgers.

Split something like this:

East: BC, Cuse, Pitt, Penn St, Rutgers, ND, Purdue, Mich St
West: Iowa, Wisc, Minn, Ill, NW, Ind, Ohio St, Mich

Protected crossovers:

Purdue-Ind
Mich-Mich St

No because they are going have to do money game thing and buy G5 schools.

This may allow ND to cycle in former Big Ten foes MSU, Northwestern, and Indiana. Also, ND ended their season against Nebraska until the USC game came into play, so there is another midwestern school the Irish have some history with.

5 ACC teams
Navy
USC
Stanford

That leaves four spots for:
Shamrock Series (neutral site)
Big time home/home
Patsy
Possibly a home/home with a Big Ten team

My take is ND should play at least 1 big 10 school every year. Michigan, Michigan state, Ohio state, Wisconsin and northwestern make the most sense in a home/away series. As for Purdue-ND, think that is a better hoop series than football, not sure why ND doesn’t play more big 10 schools in hoops, should try to play 2-3 every year. The football game I don’t get with ND is their series with Stanford. I would drop that and play navy in San Diego or somewhere in California or Hawaii when navy is the home team. No need for ND to play Stanford with USC on the schedule other than for academic suck up

Notre Dame has moved out of its traditional Chicago-Boston territory with their move to the ACC (despite the few NE schools in the ACC).

Southeast recruiting in Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia.

ND views things differently. It wants a national schedule for exposure purposes.

Why should ND play a Big Ten team every year?

They have the Midwest covered with six home games without having to play Big Ten teams.

The Southeast is covered with ACC games and some SEC home/home series with teams like Georgia and Alabama.

The Northeast is covered with games against Syracuse, Pitt, BC, and sometimes Navy.

The Southwest is/was covered with series against teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas A&M

For the West Coast, ND wants to play Southern Cal and Stanford every year to always have its last game in California for exposure and recruiting.

A national schedule and exposure is more important to ND than playing Big Ten schools.

With conference expansion and 9 conference games for some universities, rivalries for most schools have been dropped. This is not just happening for ND. 04-jawdrop 03-shhhh 07-coffee3

Yeah I hope we schedule the Boilers again. Easy road trip up to W. LA, and there are a good amount of Purdue grads living around greater Cincy for a game at Nippert. We have a home and home with IU soon.

To heck with that --- in my perfect world, all B1G schools would black-ball Notre Dame and refuse to play them.

That would also further dampen Notre Dame's "tough" strength of schedule.

After the last 2 times Notre Dame has gone undefeated yet made the college football playoff/title game, it's obvious their teams are never anywhere near elite. I think an undefeated Notre Dame should get the "UCF treatment."

I am the exact mirror image of this.

I wish that ND would boycott the Big Ten, would not have joined for hockey, and would refuse to play them in any sport.

There was never any real chance of this.

The only way would have been an ACC type deal, with ND football remaining independent.

As 1999 showed, there was no way that ND's alumni and fan base would have accepted full membership into the Big Ten.

ND would not join the Big Ten in football for two reasons:

1) It didn't want to be "landlocked" and "regionalized" in the Big Ten, and

2) It didn't want to place football into any conference.

Right. They do already, but if the Big Ten schools think they need a certain number of home games to keep within this apparent acceptable range for operational costs, the reality for the Big Ten are consistent games against that conference and FCS. Heck, we know that already (we see you, Penn State with your Delaware and Villanova games, and Rutgers regularly playing a Patsy will be a thing in time).

To Notre Dame, Purdue pretty much is a MAC game. But a MAC game that expects return trips to its venue. I think it’s cute that it’s Purdue’s side saying how the Irish want to do other things...same way Michigan State played it. IMO, it’s that conference that gives you the courage...the reality of continuing these kinds of games are 2-1’s or the 1-1-1 that favor the Irish. And nobody in the Big Ten will give the Irish that steadily.

RE: ND/Purdue games likely done after 2028
I don't believe ND views Purdue on the MAC level.

It is the best FB school in Indiana in the B1G. Traditionally more of a mid tier B1G team than lower tier.

Obviously ND with its ACC commitment just doesn't feel it has room or need for local B1G opponents on the schedule anymore. That is what this is more than any kind of arrogance toward Purdue and Michigan State.

This is the most shocking revelation in the article. Mike Bobinski spoke. And to sports press no less. And over something that wasn't already vetted softballs. This is uncharted and undocumented territory.

Bonus points for Bobinsquatch being a ND alum and letterwinner and being told thanks no thanks still by ND. Presumably that's a far nicer response than he'd get sniffing around looking for an AD type position at ND. Though that could cause Swarbrick to laugh sufficiently hard as to induce a medical emergency thus creating the vacancy.

If I were a Purdue fan my own AD is 10 fold more terrifying than ND coming off the schedule.
