RE: FBS 40-40-50 divisions
To remove Navy and Air Force from what I am calling the American Football Conference, I have replaced them with Temple and Wyoming respectively. The top tier schools, in what I am calling the National Football Conference, remain unchanged.
That leaves the 50, which I would organize as follows.
Eastern Football Conference:
Northern Division: Marshall, Appalachian State, East Carolina, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, Charlotte and Coastal Carolina.
Southern Division: Georgia Southern, Troy, Southern Miss, UAB, FAU, Louisiana Monroe, FIU, South Alabama and Georgia State.
Western Football Conference:
Southwest Division: Louisiana Tech, Tulsa, Arkansas State, Louisiana, North Texas, Tulane, Rice and Texas State.
Mountain West Division: Air Force, Hawaii, San Jose State, UNLV, New Mexico, UT San Antonio, UTEP and New Mexico State.
The Mid-American Football Conference remains unchanged from its current membership.
Playing as Independents are Navy, Army, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Liberty.
In order to facilitate scheduling for the Indies, the National Collegiate Football Association (NCFA) will allow any school which plays at an Independent to have a 13th regular season game. The Hawaii exemption also remains intact.
