Thanks to Jordan, Andrew, & Karl as well!

My link raised over $1,400. A good amount of that came from what I believe is this board.

Hugely successful day getting $750k. As a COB alumni, definitely great to see we led the pace.

RE: NIU Day of Giving campaign
Was this the first "Day of Giving"? If not how did it compare to others?

In any case seems like impressive numbers for a one day event, good to know our alumni are still out there and backing the institution.

$769,926 with 1400 gifts. It appears to be a final total.

I believe this was the first "Day of Giving" for NIU. Personally, I think it was a great success and brought in $770k into the University that would otherwise likely not have been donated. Another poster asked how this compares to other schools. By way of comparison, my daughter attends The University of Texas, and they had their day of giving earlier this spring. They called it "40 Hours for the 40 Acres." The UT community donated over $4,600,000 through approximately 9,400 gifts. As a side note, if you look at the "40 Hours for the 40 Acres" website, it is virtually identical to the NIU Day of Giving website---must have engaged the same fundraising consultant. Believe me, I understand that NIU will never have the following like UT, nor does it have the same type of Alumni base, but our "Day of Giving" proves that an increased social media presence (through the athletic department and the NIU Foundation) will bring money into the University. I hope the University uses this opportunity to grow this event next year. There are over 200,000 NIU Alumni in the Chicago area alone. We need to reach some of these folks next year and have them donate. Perhaps a few selected local billboards, radio ads or local TV ads. I would think a few commercials during next spring's Cubs and White Sox broadcasts would reach some folks who don't see the social media posts. Yesterday was a great day to be a Huskie. We should all be proud, and pledge to do an even better job next year. Can't wait to kickoff the 2019 Season! Go Huskies!!!!

RE: NIU Day of Giving campaign
It all adds up, as THammock said in the video. (See the thread "New alumni/recruitment/all around NIU video"). In my wildest imagination, if each of those 200,000 alumni gave a mere 10 bucks, that's $2 million. The difficulties are a) getting the word out to everyone so they at least read it, and b) getting them interested enough to part with a mere $10. The "mere" is one marketing angle. Putting a boxed graph on game programs, mailers, quarterly magazine, etc., that go out to NIU alumni through the Alumni Association could help. Repetition matters. So does being grateful. I don't know how Northern plans to acknowledge the generosity this time, but it needs to be big time. Maybe show some results, i.e., that money "going to work," in another video. And I like the billboard, radio, TV ideas. Anyway ... just dreaming. Or am I too far out here? It happens. GO HUSKIES!

I've been trying to think what spoke to me and got me so excited. It was a combination of 1) it was an event 2) the challenges made results visible during the day and 3) They really made it where every donation was treated the same during the event. Some challenges were dollar based, some where donor numbers based, if you wanted a shoutout on social media, you could get one, you'd be on the online donor wall if you wanted for any amount.

I hope they can line up a big dollar challenge giving big to student scholarships for 1500 total donors for next year.

I hope some of that money goes into the endowment as "endowed scholarships", or does every nickel go right back out to the students tuition needs same year? Would be nice to see NIU's endowment over 100 Mil in the near future 03-wink
