Highlighted in Blue are the only schools that exceed the SEC average in viewership.

This is yet another tool to indicate the possible targets of the SEC. There are only 2 from the Big 12 and surprise surprise they are Texas and Oklahoma. There's only 1 from the ACC and that's Clemson although F.S.U. is almost right there.

No need to look at schools from the PAC due to distance or from the Big 10 because of the strength of that conference and their history.

I just hoped you might find this interesting.

Nice work JR.

Is there a link to the source?

This, to me, is the greatest metric when evaluating candidates for the next window of realignment.

I got it off of another board where the poster who compiled it didn't give a link. But yeah it was nice work. It is a solid metric.

What these numbers will accomplish is giving the SEC substantial leverage in their deal with CBS, and likely calling into to question for ESPN the rate they will give for the ACCN.

It's a severe blow to any PAC hopes of playing catch up.

I think it also deserves to be pointed out how well TCU draws for being a small private school. Almost 19m for an extremely mediocre 7-6 season.

Despite the propaganda certain obsessed and jealous rivals try to push, the unaffiliated fans of DFW are in fact adopting the Horned Frogs as their team and the numbers reflect that.

I took note of that. And should the day ever come where Vandy decided to opt out for whatever reason, and I'm not saying they would or should, and given the freedom of information issues and how having a private in your conference is needed because of it, then I think T.C.U. moves to the top of the replacement list.

RE: Viewers Per School for 2018 NCAA Football
Obviously I’m biased but I do believe that TCU has a place in the conversation if the conference decides it needs another Texas team. TCU draws well, and even more importantly, it brings out of town SEC teams physically into DFW to stay at its hotels and eat its restaurants shop in its stores(IE gives the city a financial and therefore political reason to support the SEC)

Additionally, they are a unique candidate in that those of us who left the SWC/B12 could actually agree on because while they are a historical rival, they’re not someone we would feel is a terrible/unworthy partner.

Just food for thought

I wouldn't have a problem with T.C.U. as the traveling companion of either Oklahoma or Texas. But to keep our position relevant to the Big 10 we need one of those two brands to hold our current advantage. IMO, picking up a physical presence in DFW would be a plus. It is the only reason Georgia Tech is ever even discussed. But there we have Georgia who still delivers Atlanta and is an hour away and the SEC has Atlanta anyway via the CCG.

I've always thought TCU was a good option for a host of reasons.

My preference is to gut the value of the Big 12 and add that to the SEC. Should up our average values across the board.

The flip side of the TCU argument are the schools UNC/Duke and Kansas. Of course these numbers are for football only, and basketball numbers would be much higher I'm sure, but for UNC to have fewer than 3 million viewers is quite problematic for expansion. I'm one of the stronger fans of Kansas to the SEC on the board I think, and it is possible that with Les there the viewership goes up, but those numbers are still eye-opening.

RE: Viewers Per School for 2018 NCAA Football
FWIW,

UCF grabbed 15,086,000 viewers. That would put them at #28 overall....8th place in both the SEC and B1G; 6th place in the B12; 5th in the ACC, and 3rd in the PAC 12.

Navy had 10,882,000 (over 8M from the Army-Navy game alone)...#40....between Missouri and Indiana

BYU had 8,727,000...#47, between South Carolina and Kansas St.

Army had 8,553,000 (over 8M from the Army-Navy game alone)....also would have been #47....

Memphis had 8,462,000...also would have been #47....

USF had 7,485,000...#51, between Baylor and Arizona State.

Boise State had 6,004,000...#55, between Arkansas and Kansas.

I didn't find any other non-P5 that were above 6M (ie, top-55 P5).

EDIT: I realized that JR's numbers did NOT include bowl games, so I revised to reflect only regular season and CCG viewership.

And, Notre Dame's pre-bowl total was about 44,350,000

RE: Viewers Per School for 2018 NCAA Football
Is this a listing of total TV draw numbers for a season? If so, and just speculating here, figures appear reflective of general popularity of the schools, their seasonal record, and when and against whom, games were played and featured.

Are bowl games factored into the equation? North Carolina didn't play in one. But Wake Forest garners more TV viewers? Wake and Duke were bowl teams.

Oklahoma was in the playoffs and Texas played in the Sugar Bowl. That's a lot of gravy for the two most popular B12 schools.

Mississippi State played a New Year's Day bowl game and is in the top half of the SEC. Yet, State is smaller than most SEC schools.

JR, perhaps offer more details on how those figures are derived, or share a link if available. I am not disputing the figures are reasonable tabulations, but explaining a pertinent measure of methodology used would help clarify. Thanks.

It's simple. The figures are for the regular season and CCG's to my understanding. And as far as the discrepancies they are likely accounted for by games against the top programs. So Wake played F.S.U., Clemson, and Notre Dame and all were televised and those would be the top 3 national draws in the ACC. North Carolina didn't play any of them. A sucky schedule and a crappy team accounts for UNC's numbers. What's so mysterious about that?

This is a great thread/post. Can you put it over on the College Sports and Conference Realignment board? I'm still new so not sure how this works? I feel like a troll sometimes posting in the SEC forum.

Trolls are jerks. You're not and the forum is open to anyone who wants to discuss. I didn't put it over on the other board because 50% of the posts would be G5 fans griping that they weren't included. But if you would like I'll copy it to the Big 10 forum.

RE: Viewers Per School for 2018 NCAA Football
Great post that JRsec was so kind to share with his BIG friends.

Love the numbers that I see next to Northwestern! That blew me away more than anything else I saw on this post.

BIG looking very strong on average but those teams on the bottom need to step it up. These schools are making way to much money to not display a program that people want to see.

These numbers, In my opinion, reflect everything we discuss here. It's a reflection of recruiting, brand, value to conference, coaching etc...

Overall though, it's a conference we should all be proud to have teams we love be a part of!

Very interesting.

Shows the SEC & B1G are far ahead of the other conferences with 6 schools each in the top 20.

I was surprised that the XII had more top 20 than the ACC.

Also surprised at how far behind the ACC & PAC are behind the other 3 conferences.

Does show that OU draws well despite being in a relatively small state population wise.

Biggest "wow" is how large the number is for a small private school like Northwestern.

As Coach Fitz would say "Go Cats"...

What's up Minnesota and North Carolina? That's just embarrassing!

I do find some joy though with Minnesota. I hate them just as much as Michigan.
