Report: Fenway Park to host ACC-AAC bowl game beginning in 2020

Quote:Boston’s Fenway Park will host a college football bowl game matching teams from the ACC and American beginning in 2020, Brett McMurphy of WatchStadium has reported.

Beginning in 2020, the ACC will have a maximum of 10 bowl bids in addition to its CFP/NY6/Orange Bowl arrangement. Adding this bowl leads to the question, what bowls these will be.

For 2019-20, our bowls are 1) CFP/Orange Bowl; 2) Citrus (only if a B1G school is selected to the Orange Bowl); 3) Camping World; 4a) Belk; 4b) Sun; 4c) Pinstripe; 4d) Music City (our Gator Bowl appearances are used up); 8a) Independence; 8b) Quick Lane; 8c) Military; 11a) Gasparilla (conditional); 11b) Birmingham (conditional)

The ACC's 2020-21 lineup potentially looks like this now: 1) CFP/Orange Bowl; 2) Outback (only if a B1G school is selected to the Orange Bowl); 3) Camping World; 4a) Belk; 4b) Sun; 4c) Pinstripe; 4d) Gator; 4e) Holiday; 9a) Fenway; 9b) Independence; 9c) Quick Lane; 9d) Military. Assuming the Outback doesn't count against the ACC's 10 maximum bids, this would fill up the slate.

So..
Citrus-- now Outback
Belk all SEC-- now SEC/B10
MusicCity/Gator/SEC/B10-- now Gator/SEC

Drop Gasparilla,Birmingham
Add Holiday,Fenway

basically status quo, maybe slight upgrade?

No relationships with the Gasparilla or Birmingham have been announced, but it's possible the ACC could stay in the mix as a backup. However, with 10 games + the CFP/NY6 + Outback, they wouldn't be needed much.

There has also been no mention of the Sun in any of the articles that I've seen. I assume that means nothing is changing there, but you never know.

Overall, it is an upgrade to have 11 bowl slots locked up, with the flexibility to grab more slots in the NY6 and Outback. Switching the Music City/Gator to the Gator only and the Citrus to the Outback will probably be a payout reduction. However, the Gator and Outback have great tradition and good locations and timeslots.
