Now that the bio of the former assistant has been posted by Elon, and the bio’s of the new staff has been posted by W&M, draw your own conclusions.

The topic may be old; the information and comparison is a few hours brand new. Nobody’s compared Jon to the new guys. Nobody’s analyzed what Jon did here.

Finally, let’s say you lived in Indiana, and had some loyalty to Jon, and saw what W&M posted today, think this sits well? Think Elon got the better part of the deal? Hope the wheels fall off in W’burg?

This has been, and continues to be, an utter embarrassment for William and Mary. Tony. Jon. Austin. Luke.

Ah, we finally agree about something.

I like Tony. I had no problem keeping him on. The AD decided to go in another direction as is her job. Fine. I also was a big fan of Coach Holmes. Would have loved to retain him but he decided it best for him to move on. That is his right and I get it. Thanks to him for what he has done. I'm OK there too. I think we all want what is best for William and Mary basketball moving forward. Like it or not, Tony is not a part of that future. I know the wounds are still fresh, but constantly picking at the scab and not letting things heal doesn't benefit the program.

There's no evidence Holmes was released.

For weeks, we knew that we had traded Tony, Jon, and Austin for ?, ?, and ?.

Today, we find out that Tony, Jon, and Austin were traded for Dane, Mike, and Jason.

Nobody makes that trade. No seasoned AD makes that trade. In a moment of candor, Dane, Mike, and Jason don’t make that trade.

In no way, shape, or form, did this turn out the way that the AD envisioned. No way. The program is not as strong today as it was just a few short weeks ago. The new guys have their work cut out for them.

Tony, Jon, and Austin were our guys. Our guys were treated horribly by the AD.

Dane, Mike, and Jason are now our guys ... not the AD’s guys .... our guys.

I hope Dane, Mike, and Jason, along with our guy Julian, are treated better by this AD than the prior group.

And if not, I will stand up for them while some of the rest of you continue to back the AD.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

One more thing.

In national politics, bad news is dumped on a Friday for obvious reasons.

No OTOD MBB numbers have been released. MBB staff news is released today, a Friday.

This alum refuses to be manipulated.

I have it on solid authority, that Jon was offered a position on the new staff. He decided that, for whatever reasons, that it would be better for the future of his career to move on.

I would have loved for Jon to have remained on staff, not just because he is a solid coach, but because he is a super human being. He decided that he wanted to continue to learn and grow in a different situation. There is plenty to question the administration on, but tossing out Jon was not one of them.

Jon couldn’t stay. Tossing Tony was tossing Jon, regardless of whether he was offered a spot on the new staff, unless he got the HC position. Was that offered to him?

Tony is a super human being. Jon is a super human being.

But not good enough to coach MBB at W&M.

It is rare that former staff stays on, and with the tenure of Shaver being 16 years (I think?), it makes the odds even less (unless Holmes was promoted than most of the old staff likely stays put).

I suppose it was a sincere offer for him to stay, but I would guess offered knowing he would leave if that makes sense.

I’ve often wondered why we had so many players from the mid west? Now, I know. I suspect the new staff have connections, networks etc closer to the Tidewater. We might even have guys on the roster whose family can drive to home games!
