I saw a picture of the USL Ragin’ Cajuns football team from ‘97 and I was surprised to see a bulldog head logo on the pants! I read up on the history of the team and discovered the nickname was Bulldogs way back. Has it always been a “mascot”? Anybody have a decent picture of that bulldog head? It was the year there were fleurs-de-lis on the helmets.

I believe they were the Mud Dogs at one point

The Bulldog mascot went away in 1962 and the school was officially the University of Southwestern Louisiana at the time.

But the best mascot we have ever had was the Cajun Chicken back in the 90’s. To me it was a perfect representation of being the Ragin Cajuns and a it would be a good way to keep with tradition.

How much do you know about the new mascot selection, I know they want to get rid of the chili pepper and bring back an old one. I just prey it isn’t the bulldog.

The Cajuns got rid of the pepper (his name was Cayenne) several years ago. As far as I know, there are no plans to have a replacement mascot.
