Coach Hammock, a new approach.
Thought it would be interesting to note some of the immediately apparent differences in Coach Hammock's approach versus the previous coaching staff--recruiting, Xs and Os, academics, fan base, etc. (Please MD, don't turn this into a Coach Carey bashing). For starters, it's clear that Coach Hammock wants to rejuvenate the fan base. He uses social media to constantly promote NIU and communicates directly with fans. He's actually responded to my tweets a couple of times. Any other thoughts.

I love what he and staff are doing. Coach H is a Huskie, he is one of us, understands NIU and our challenges. He is a true Huskie, and he is our Huskie brother. Always giong to be hard to compare him to anyone else, he is home, and he'll bring our team home. We are in great hands.

Much, MUCH bigger social media presence which has been huge. Between the football coaching staff and Mission, NIU twitter is more of a thing than it's ever been. I think it will translate into higher attendance and fan engagement (as long as they get W's).

Amen. I REALLY like what the coaching staff is doing on social media. Social Media is extremely important today and recruits, fans, and everyone is using it. It's such a waste if you don't use it to your advantage. I'm glad that the current staff sees the benefits of using it and they're doing a great job of promoting the program.

personally, I'm very excited for the season. more so than in previous years. I will be donating to the athletics fund on the day of giving and I didn't even go to NIU! I simply want to support the program as much as possible.

Go Huskies

When you log on Twitter there’s nothing but POSITIVE vibes/tweets front the entire coaching staff and Mission of course. If you are a high school player you have to think that big things are happening in Dekalb with how they are promoting NIU. And Coach Hammock just gets it....reaches out to me on twitter to thank me for supporting NIU. That’s how you engage a fan base.

Coach Hammock has brought some energy back to the program and seems pretty savvy on the use of social media. His recruiting has been great, too. Let's hope all of that translates to wins.

And keeping Mission front and center is a great marketing/PR tool.

Coach Hammock, a new approach.
My wife received an invite to go golfing with coach. She works with one of the advisory boards.

Via twitter you can find out which coach is recruiting a particular state making it 1 step easier for a player to connect with NIU.

Season ticket announcements are all over the place.

The shout out to all the former players who came back to watch the spring game was awesome. We should appreciate those who laid the foundation but then come back to share their time and enjoy the current team.

Lastly, the threat of throwing downfield or over the middle. This just might be my favorite.
