The problem is UMass has been and still is playing over their heads. They favor themselves along the likes of UConn and Temple and chased after them when in reality they are much more like Rhode Island and Delaware. If they had stayed FCS with the latter two, they would be thriving instead of finding themselves homeless in a subdivision they aren't suited for.

People said the same thing about stAte when they moved up.
Of course we paid the price of many years of losing but it was move up or be left behind in the eyes of many.

I expect TXST to be between 120-110. Just glad to not bottom out the rankings again.

I'd put you guys in the top 35-40. My guess is coaching change is going to keep you from any top 25 pre-season rankings. But for the conference's sake, I hope I'm wrong. Besides, I enjoy it when we get to beat ranked teams. (To soon?)
Realistically, we probably won't be top 35 starting out, perhaps somewhere in the mid 30's. Assuming we roll ETSU and Charlotte, it'd be awesome to roll into Chapel Hill as a top 25 and the favored team, then laying the smack down on Mack Brown.

It’s amazing how hard G5 schools, other than AAC, have to fight, scratch, claw, and basically perform a minor miracle to receive votes in the top 25, but Nebraska, a team that finished 4-8 last yr, is pre top 20 and their starting qb who, for most of the season didn’t play at a high level, is considered to have an inside track to the heisman, guess I should be surprised.

They're basing it on how Scott Frost took UCF from scrubs to G5 overlords fairly quickly. It's not a bad bet. Martinez has loads of potential, especially in year two under Frost.

#123 is Central Michigan
https://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/c...story.html
If Jim McElwain couldn't do it at Florida, could he do it at CMU? The Chippewas made a bowl game in 4 consecutive years from 2014-2017 going 0-4 in them before a disastrous 1-11 season last year.
The MAC now has 2 teams in the bottom 10.

Perception of the SunBelt appears to be on an upward trend. No SB teams in the bottom 8. Last year, we had 2. Good job guys!

I just cannot see us being the second worst team in the country. We will just have to prove them wrong.

I'm projecting USA wins over:
Nebraska
Jackson State
UAB
GS
Tx St
Ga St
Bowl Eligible.

Maybe take your rational glasses off and place on your watch the world burn glasses.
I wanted to include a win over App, but I was too worried it would come true.

Dang... I wish I'd have known they had a limit to how many articles you can read now... I'd have saved one for UTSA...

Quote:Texas-San Antonio overachieved during Frank Wilson’s first two seasons, then took a huge step back in 2018. The Roadrunners’ offense was among the worst in the nation last season and it may take time to get back on track.
Orlando Sentinel college insider Matt Murschel ranked all 130 Football Bowl Subdivision teams in the country entering the 2019 season. The Sentinel staff will take a closer look at a new team daily, counting backward from No. 130 to our projected No. 1 team.
Today at No. 122: Texas-San Antonio
Coach: Frank Wilson (15-21, entering fourth season; 15-21 overall)
2018 record: 3-9, 2-6 in Conference USA; fifth in West Division
Look back: Wilson, who was considered an elite recruiter during stops as an assistant at Ole Miss, Tennessee and LSU, exceeded expectations by winning six games apiece during his first two seasons at Texas-San Antonio. The Roadrunners lost a lot of experienced players and were projected to take a step back during the 2018 season, but they plummeted. The team ranked No. 129 out of 129 NCAA-recognized FBS teams last season in total offense (247.1 yards per game) and No. 128 in scoring offense (14.2 points per game). With the offense stalling, the inexperienced defense was under more pressure it could not handle. The team went from No. 5 nationally in total defense during the 2017 season (287.8 yards allowed per game) to No. 96 (435.5 yards allowed per game).
Offensive starters returning: 9
Offensive starters lost: 2
Defensive starters returning: 7
Defensive starters lost: 4
Key losses: QB D.J. Gillins, WR Greg Campbell Jr., LB Josiah Tauaefa, LB Les Maruo, S Darryl Godfrey, DT Kevin Strong Jr., P Yannis Routsas
Top returnees: OL Spencer Burford, OT Josh Dunlop, OL Trey Shannon, DT Baylen Baker, DE Lorenzo Dantzler, DB Carl Austin III, DB Cassius Grady, LS Grant Merka
Strengths: It seems likely the UTSA defense will be the first to recover. Defensive linemen Baylen Baker and Lorenzo Dantzler should provide leadership up front while Carl Austin III and Cassius Grady will anchor the secondary.
The Roadrunners have long had a strong special-teams unit. Kicker Jared Sackett should continue to be an asset while return specialist Matt Guidry also is back to help bolster the UTSA lineup.
The offense needs a ton of work, but quarterback Frank Harris shined during the Roadrunners’ spring game and could be key to revitalizing the attack after recovering from back-to-back ACL injuries. While Harris was impressive, UTSA’s starting race isn’t officially settled, and he faces competition from 2018 starter Cordale Grundy, Lowell Narcisse and Jordan Weeks.
Weaknesses: Jeff Kastl takes over as UTSA’s new offensive coordinator, the third in as many seasons under Wilson. Kastl needs to coax improvement out of every position group. The offensive line will be key, with the competition for starting expected to continue through preseason camp. If UTSA can’t get more push up front this season, the offense won’t have a chance to rebound and the defense will face more stress.
Outlook: San Antonio has embraced the Roadrunners since the program was first launched in 2011 under the direction of Larry Coker. There are plenty of talented recruits in the region and there is a sense UTSA can consistently be competitive in Conference USA. The question concerns whether Wilson can get the offense, which has been tepid throughout his tenure, to move the ball.
