Unreal win by the Blue Jackets last night!
Tough coming back down 3-goals on the road, especially against an extremely talented Tampa team.

BlueJackets 1-0
Islanders 1-0
Blues 1-0
Stars 1-0
Sharks 1-0
Surprised the Sharks stomped the Knights. I guess if Columbus was to get one from TB, it would be game 1.

Canes got down big early but our rookie gets two goals in the 3rd to make a game of it.

Knights came back well to win game 2 and tie series at 1 apiece. Now up at home 3-1 in 2nd period in game 3.

Columbus now up 3-0 on Tampa Bay...that's 3 games to zip, not a score for a game. TB in trouble, righty?

RE: 2018-19 NHL Thread
Vegas Golden Knights held on to win game 3 6-3 at home. Now up in the series 2 games to 1. Next game pivotal for both teams.
Yeah, I agree Tampa will likely win at least 1 before bowing out to Columbus. Shame when a team does so well in dominating regular season in a sport only to get bounced in playoffs. Happened to Braves in baseball several times during their 14-year division title streak. That's why I liked sports playoffs better when it was win division or sit out until next season. Not a big fan of Wild card teams in general, and especially when they get to play a full series as they do in NHL hockey, albeit as lower seeds. Too much loss of advantage for division winners from regular season. At least baseball's modification of making both Wild card teams in each league play a 1-game playoff to get to play top seed evens things out a bit more. Hockey and NBA could take a lesson from that. People want to see good teams play against eachother more than a free-for all in playoffs. (Remember not too long ago in Hockey (NHL) when only 5 teams didn't qualify for playoffs? Yeah, that was even more ridiculous.

Whoa whoa whoa.... baseball's wild card crap is BS for post season playoffs. A one off game doesn't tell you who is the better of the two. And as far as that goes, a 5 or 7 game series usually weeds out the weaker of the two teams. So I am find with the top teams playing lower seeds. Put the work in in the regular season to set your self up for a better slot in the postseason.
I find what is happening to TB more of the norm in hockey. I think the where so far and above everyone during the regular season they weren't ready for postseason toughness. The Blue Jackets took themselves a while to get their act together and now its paying off. It looks like to me they want it more.

I agree a one-off game is a crapshoot, and that's my point...if you don;t win your division then you should be grateful you even get a one-off. I think getting a 5 or 7 game series same as everyone else in playoffs is kind of bogus if you don't win your division. Just my opinion/preference...of course, playoffs nowadays are about more tv games and more tv money, but as far as seeing/rewarding best teams, especially after a long season with many games, 16 teams in a 30 or so team league is just too many for my tastes.
AFA Tampa Bay, well, if they can't get their act together after being down 2-0 to an inferior team, they don't deserve to win.
BTW, congrats on the "canes getting back in their series with the Caps tonight. 5-zip win helps makes things interesting...as TB should have done.

Fantastic night at PNC arena last night. I don't think I ever really fell asleep last night after getting home, too much adrenaline. Canes may be down two forwards for the next few games, as Svech got knocked out by Ovie and Ferland left the game for the umpteenth time this year.

What was Ferland's deal? I saw a mini clip of him leaving.... couldn't tell what might have led to it.

BOLTS..... SWEPT....
I honestly can't believe it.
Interesting offseason coming for TB as this wasn't even that close of a sweep.

I said they didn't deserve to win the series a coupla posts up, and there you go. Congrats to the Jackets.
More intrigued by the Vegas Knights being up now 3 games to 1 over San Jose. next game is in SJ, but hope Knights just pour it on and get it over with like the BJs did. No sense sucking all the life out of the series and letting them come alive again.
(I know--sorry 'bout dat.)

Canes evened up the series with Washington. Hockey attendance record (over 19,200) for Carolina’s PNC Arena thanks to 600 SRO tickets.

IT WAS EPIC.
We are firmly in the Cap's heads now.

Didn't think "canes had much of a chance. It's a dogfight now. next game is paramount.
Also, Vegas took a night off against the Sharks. To be expected, especially on Shary's home ice. Game 6 Sunday evening is near must-win for Vegas. IF Sharks tie, all bets are off for Vegas (ha, ha.)

Saw Caps have recalled Devante Smith-Pelly from Hershey. Caps need a spark and he could easily be the one to provide it.

Now the top 2 teams in the NHL have been knocked out.
Avalanche put out the Flames 4 games to 1 with a 5-1 win in Game 5.

And both in arguably dominating fashion too.
