Troy loses AD to Southern Miss
Does this make losing back to back ADs to G5 schools for Troy?

Not great, Bob.

Not great, Bob.

To be fair John Hartwell went to Utah State to become their Vice President

Jeremy McClain is moving back to his home state of Mississippi.

He was AD at Delta State for five years and then Associate AD at Southern Miss before going to Troy. He was making $210,000 as Troy’s AD. Southern Miss’s last AD was making $350,000.

He was making $210,000 when he was first hired back in 2015. That's not to say Troy didn't give him a raise since that time.

Troy isn't going to offer as much as USM, based on the fact that Troy was hiring a guy with no previous D1 chief AD experience. USM was already going to have to pay more if they wanted an experienced G5 AD with his resume.

McClain was good, but I think many of us knew he would wind up being back at USM. He's a USM guy, through and through, and he didn't try to hide that fact. I wish him the best. He will be good for USM.

I wonder if we can now get them to come to Boone for their return trip. 05-stirthepot

If someone came to me in June or July at peak heat/humidity and offered me a job in Logan, Utah at same money I make now I’d take it :)

Logan is a neat place. Community is really vested in USU. Game day employees at most businesses were wearing game day shirts.

Did not realize McClain was that tied to Mississippi.

When you take the time to look at this, you realize that there are legitimate/personal reasons (for McClain to take the job) that have nothing to do with Troy. Informed people — especially the talent-pool of potential replacements — are going to be aware of those reasons.

But for people just skimming the media-surface, though — what they see is Troy got outbid by Southern Miss. Not a good look.

I don't think we're real concerned about the look. Troy's had enough recent success and is paying some of the highest salaries in the Sun Belt right now. We'll be just fine.

I'm sure Jack Hawkins will find another great replacement that will keep raising the bar. He usually does.

You were ready to come up to Boone until the hurricane presented a nice excuse. You then proceeded to decline every offer made to play the game including App coming to USM, playing on a neutral field and re-scheduling.

Yosef 84 got to it before I could, but by the time it was over, your “anywhere” didn’t even include Hattiesburg after you all turned your nose up at playing in Chattanooga, roughly halfway between the two schools.

We understand. We wouldn’t want to play us either.

What ever half truths you want to tell yourself to make you feel better about it, go right ahead. I can promise you no Southern Miss fan ever lost a wink of sleep over it. The hard part was understanding why we ever had some FCS callup from the middle of nowhere that we don’t even recruit against scheduled as a road game.

We can thank the General for that, which is another reason among several why Southern Miss fans should be celebrating the hiring of an experienced, successful AD.

Lol it’s funny to watch you try and insult App with “some FCS callup from the middle of nowhere”. They’ve accomplished more than you since they’ve moved up, and don’t even try and pretend that Hattiesburg isn’t also the middle of nowhere. And if you’re comparing nowhere’s, most people would much prefer to be in the Appalachian mountains than the armpit of Mississippi.

Okay. An FCS call-up that was fixing to kick your ass. And in the end you were even too scared to play it as a home game. That’s okay. Everyone knows what you are now, and we get a good chuckle every time your name is mentioned in these parts.

Mississippi is last in the nation in all the good stuff and first in all the Bad stuff. Years of bad government will get you this.
