I have it on good authority that there's a former Izzo assistant that Buffalo can pick up on the cheap.

They were about to be at the bottom of the MAC of course he’s leaving! They lose 5 starting seniors. Their transfer list is going to grow along with a couple of de-commits[/i]

If they’re looking to upgrade, the coach who’s beat them two straight years has got to be top of their list.

I would even be willing to send them my Ricardo Patton autographed official basketball as an inducement. How can anyone pass that up?

If Monty went to Buffalo I wouldn’t be surprised if he had success there.

YOU have a Ricardo Patton autographed official basketball! Wow! All I have is an autographed official Charlie Sadler kicking tee. Never used for kickoffs after TDs.

Yes, personally autographed to my wife and me, but I can always scratch off our names. Heck, I might as well scratch off Patton’s name.

Sounds like a rebuild. We have a coach who people seem to believe has done an excellent job in that category.

If Montgomery went to Buffalo and had the created the same amount of improvement there that he has at NIU, Buffalo would win the National Championship in about 5 years.

I trust people are kidding about the "NIU basketball rebuild" at least I really really hope it's meant as good fun. This program is still the Pitts in the MAC

Buffalo promotes Jim Whitesell to Head Basketball Coach.

Seems a bit underwhelming of a hire, especially with a bunch of recruits already having jumped ship and/or requesting releases.

Was hoping Buffalo could keep the train moving. A strong Buffalo BBall program is good for the conference.

No offense NorthCoast but #1) who do you think the "could keep the train moving" hire was supposed to be?
#2) UB's AD is probably thinking continuity is the best (if not easiest) route to take.
#3) Oats was "next in line" when Hurley got hired away. Oats made Whitesell his associate coach, so four years later Whitesell is "next in line."
#4) Whitesell has been in the business for 34 years. Immediately before Buffalo he was a two-year assistant at St. John's and had been an assistant to Rick Majerus at Saint Louis. At one time was head coach at D-I Loyola-Chicago as well as D-II Lewis University and D-III Elmhurst College. So you've got a guy with head coaching experience, knowledge of the MAC, Big East, Atlantic 10, and dealing with budget limitations.
Sure sounds like a better-rounded resume for a MAC job than being the assistant at Michigan State and not realizing the challenges in going from a P5 to a mid-major. Heck, with that Lewis and Elmhurst background, he's probably more familiar and better-connected with Chicago area high school coaches who have MAC talent in their programs.

Whitesell has experience but you don’t follow up 2 top 25 seasons with a coach who got fired from the Horizon League-iteration of Loyola.

So you're saying that's like following up qualifying for the Orange Bowl by settling for continuity?
