Lots of UTA folks will be very happy for Scott Cross, and yet sad that we will have to play against him. How many other former Southland Conference coaches are now in the Sun Belt? Marlin, Kaspar and Cross that I know of.

I doubt he will harbor any kind of grudge against UT Arlington. He's too classy for that.

Honestly it would crack me up, but I think that would be the end of the line for our AD. You can run off the winningest coach in school history only to have him go to a conference member and take them to the promise Land and live that down.

While it may be the minority, many Mav fans are hoping for that exact scenario.

For me, I’m a Troy fan second now. If the conference tourney results from a couple years ago happen, I’ll be happy.

You've never heard of Coach Scott Cross???

Nope not until now.

You must be out of the loop.

He’s the coach that put the mavs in the top of the standings the previous five years before this one.

Great pick up by Troy . . . and yeah, the conference just got a bit tougher.

he is a good guy. a players coach. his teams were usually good on fundamentals and played solid basketball even if they didnt have the best talent. athletics at uta has pretty much always been more of a family thing than a cut-throat winning thing. another reason why folks are baffled that he was let go. I hope he is getting good money.

He'll have a higher salary than Cunningham had.

Amazing press conference today. So excited for our future. Coach cross speaks a lot like how Neal Brown speaks.

Hear he said he has a guy from his previous staff coming. I'd assume that is Zak Buncik who is unattached to a program at the moment. He's a great guy and a really hard worker. Started off as an operations guy and worked his way up.

Sounds like he's going to recruit Texas and Oklahoma, along with the Southeastern states.

He was? From what I always noticed, he wasn't.

The only players he ever had that even made it on the Sun Belt First/Second/Third teams at season's end were Varnado and Person. The only other pretty good players he has had are Alex Hicks, and maybe Hunter Williams from a few years ago.

Cunningham recruited some guys that probably shouldn't have been playing D1 basketball... some of which transferred out to DII or NAIA schools, and still didn't see significant playing time.

According to the Fort-Worth Star Telegram, TCU's head coach has said that Scott Cross received "a big pay raise at Troy from where he was at when he was with UTA."

https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/col...38824.html

What was he making at UTA before his firing? Phil Cunningham was making nearly $300,000 per year. I'd assume that Cross' new salary is going to be higher than Cunningham's.

He was in the 300 - 350K range from what I remember. Ogden has a 400K salary and I figure Cross has to be getting more than Ogden for him to have jumped to Troy before the tourney was over.
