Can’t do anything about conference schedule, but having the 217 ranked non-conference schedule to go along with the horrible conference schedule is what is killing attendance.
https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basket...s-by-other
Look at the teams comparable to us that made the ncaa tournament, played tough non-conference slate. Fix this and fans may get interested again, even if we have to reduce the number of home games.

Buffalo (MAC) with a 6 seed and Wofford (SoCon) with a 7 seed demolishes the conference excuse for CUSA schools.
CUSA is not the reason behind UAB basketball's decline. Mediocre coaches led to mediocre basketball. Schedules were softened to better mask the decline. Most fans don't buy it and don't want to pay to watch it. Simple as that.

RE: How quickly we forget...
Good competitive athletic programs like good public schools cost competitive money in spending levels. A school's financial support determines that spending level. Just like the best supported public schools generally have the best records, the best supported athletic programs generally have the best records on the court or on the field.. Good financial support means that when a program makes a hiring mistake, it can afford to correct it more quickly than a less well supported program.

RE: How quickly we forget...
For reference, Murry's OOC in his last season (7-6, 13-17 overall):
2001-2002
E. Michigan - Paradise Jam W
Miami, FL - Paradise Jam L
La Salle - Paradise Jam L
Richmond L
Bradley W
@Murry State L
Alcorn W
UNLV W
@VCU L
La Tech W
@La Salle L
Jackson State W
FL A&M W
Pretty tough. Three SWAC level teams but no D2's and the rest solid mid-majors or above. Not a great home slate but did get UNLV in Bartow. Add to that a CUSA 1.0 conference schedule (6-10).
I believe that season was the low mark for basketball attendance before the 18/19 season. Even in a really good league, not many folks want to watch crappy UAB basketball.

UAB's Basketball Team exceeded the expectations, This year and Coach Rob, Did a Great Job with what he had, He can not fill the seats that's it and that's up to You'all . See if Andy can fill the seats and win with the Blazers. None the Less Coach Rob Did Good.

You will have to totally rebuild, The Birminghams use too's will only come out for Auburn, Cincy, Marquete and such
The Blazers will have to get a name coach or be content with what they have and their is no one filling seats. Maybe they can Hire JAX States Coach.

None of the players that we lost to transfer shined outside of Nick and I hate that he got hurt again!

Lavendar put in a solid year for Valpo in the MVC. Not a star but definitely a contributor. The Mocs were just bad but I'm glad Smallwood finally got to play some. A real nice kid. We'll see what Darling does for the Blue Hens.
A never injured Nick Norton would have played at a major program in the midwest, most likely Creighton.

If any of you thought this was going to be an NCAA Tournament season, you have an incredibly short memory. This squad overachieved, especially with the loss of Will Butler during the season.
A team that lost so much and was depending on so many new and inexperienced players to carry this team was STILL a shot away from beating the SEC champions in the BJCC, beat the eventual CUSA champion, and was a few FTs away from playing for the championship against a team we had already beaten once.
In '19-'20 we have a very reasonable shot to win it all in CUSA and make the NCAA Tournament.

Valpo was a really bad team but yes Lavendar did give them some good minutes.

Wasn't including JD because he transferred 2 years ago. He has excelled in Louisiana but his jump shot is still hard to watch. We could have used his athleticism on this years team though.

Had the most potential outta all transfers going forward imho. Never really replaced him recruiting wise.

JD Williams was 42/113 (37%) from three, so I'd say his shot is doing okay.
As a team, Lousiana-Monroe made 341 threes at 40%—good for 14th and 1st respectively. If they have a shooting guru, we should hire that person immediately.

Good to know this. I watched them play 3 times this year and he couldn't hit a shot from outside the arc. He still took over 2 of those games despite the shooting. Wish him well for sure.
