Always a nice kid. He played better down the stretch but started off poorly. Benched for a few games as well and only played when others in foul trouble. Curious where he’ll go but hope they bring in some exciting new players.

It would be very difficult to bring in any “exciting” players unless one happens by some miracle to be a diamond in the rough. Then, he will leave. With the advent of social media, there are few secrets. The bad culture of this program is known everywhere. The way to cure this is to get rid of the cause - then sit back and wait a few years.

There is an obvious reason for this, and that reason needs to be shown the door as quickly as possible before we sink even further into the sewer. And the budget downers need not respond: The money is there to do it. The powers that be just need someone to agree to pull the trigger. As our friends at Nike say, "Just do it!"

Titanic. This might be the nail in the coffin. Since a couple are seniors, not many players with experience left. Frazier will have a very tough decision.

Actually, it's a pretty easy decision as to what needs to be done. However, all of the decision makers need to be on board, and I don't think everyone is in agreement.

It’s college basketball. This is happening everywhere. If German or James go, it’s going to spell doom for next year. Key and Demograntis though? To be blunt, who cares?

This idea Monty has tanked the program is not based in fact. It’s significantly better now than when he got here.

Is Demogerontis actually a "transfer"? And if he is, does it really matter? He was one of the seniors they recognized during the Senior Night Game so I figured he was graduating.

Nevertheless, I can't see him transferring to a better program than NIU. I presume he's going to grad school. Not sure if NIU offers whatever program he'd be interested in, and that matters. But, losing him is not exactly a blow to anything. Hell, I've pretty much put him out of my mind and even when he was around last year, he wasn't very good.

And for the record, “four other players MAY be considering transfer options” isn’t even really a report on anything.

Same thing happened last year. Some dude on Twitter, who I can't remember who but supposesdly had some sort of access to the team....some media type or something, leaked that 5 players, one of which a "rotation" player, were transferring. When it all shook out, it was Justin Thomas and Owen Hamilton.

Like....the "rotation" player was freaking Justin Thomas.....

And Owen Hamilton is terrible.

Sometimes when guys who aren't very good get out of the program, it's a good thing.

I mean, you can fault Montgomery for recruiting those guys, but he doesn't actually get the pick of the litter. And, he's had teams with 4 or 5 freshmen on them, so the aren't all going to be gems. With that said, I'm sure he was expecting better out of Hamilton, but it was clear from the start that his feet were painfully slow and he was super soft under the basket.

There are things to criticize Monty for (mainly not winning enough), fringe rotation players transferring is not one of them.

If German goes (which I can’t see him doing because he would have to sit a year) by all means freak out. Losing Lacey would be a reason to be upset too.

They'd both have to sit a year (although, I have no idea if Lacey graduated or not, so that would open the grad transfer window). Nevertheless, let's say Lacey did graduate and transferred. Can you really hold that against anyone? I mean, if he's going to grad school, NIU doesn't offer every program and/or there are better schools/programs outside of NIU. It very could well just be a guy making a better choice for his education.

With that said. The only thing I see German leaving for is either to play in the G League or in an overseas professional league. And, both are possibilities and, to be honest, I wouldn't hold that against him or Monty. If he can make money playing basketball, I have to support him on that.

Losing either would be really bad for the program though. Losing both would be devastating (hell...loosing just German would be devastating to the program too). But I'm not going to act like all transfers (or departures) are equal and some are a positive.

I mean, with Key gone, it's pretty certain they'll give a scholarship to Hankerson and I think he more than earned it this year. So, that's a good thing.

Yes, similar to last year for sure. We will see what happens. I have heard some players may have eligibility issues as well which would explain why they would leave.

As much help as is available to players, this shouldn't be an issue. Granted, they still have to pass tests, but they have gobs and gobs of resources to help them pass.

I would love to have you as my boss. I can go to you after 4 years of mediocre work and then say to you " give me work a 1st yr employee could do" and blow you away and get a great review that says " I hope he stays around a long time". I don't know how a boss could be happy after 8 years of this.
