UNLV would be a good landing spot for either Rick Pitino or Steve Alford.

Pitino could be Tark 2,0, I don’t think that would happen. They are trying to clean up image.

It's been my opinion for a long time that when Texas A&M looks to hire a new head coach that Buzz Williams will leave Blacksburg. I don't think Texas is a good fit for Buzz but Texas A&M fans would love his quirky nature.
With Clarke already gone and 3 seniors leaving this year and no guarantee that Blackshear or Walker will be back, I think this will be the year Buzz makes a move. The only thing that might keep him is if Texas A&M doesn't cater to Buzz's contract demands.
He has some strange details in his current contract that he might not want to give up. If he's fired without 'good cause', he keeps getting paid even if he gets another coaching job. That's unique in coaching contracts as far as I know....
The rest of the perks I don't think any other school would have any trouble matching but being able to keep being paid if you're fired even if you find another job is a hard one to match.
Buzz's original contract with VT.

Well Texas A&M guaranteed Jimbo Fisher $7.5M/year for the next decade whether he works or not, so...

Buzz does not have an agent, and he writes his all of his own contracts. He had similar clauses in his deal at Marquette. When we got new school leadership, rumor was that they were unpleasantly surprised by the amount of power/control he had, not to mention continual escalating salary (regardless of performance). The continual five-year rollover contract is a brilliant piece of contract writing for any head coach (not to mention the escalating salary).
I have no doubt that VT was more than willing to provide similar amenities to him when they were negotiating for him to come over. They were in desperate need to get out from the bottom of ACC Basketball, and Buzz has absolutely accomplished that. I also have little doubt that VT would not be sad or disappointment to be "out from under" such a uniquely structured contract as well. If A&M allows Buzz to, once again, write his own deal, it would make too much sense for him to make this move IMO. VT would, additionally, be able to attract a strong candidate to come in and build on the foundation that has been created.
Will be interesting to follow that search, for sure.

Source says Nebraska's looking to dump Tim Miles and bring in Fred Hoiberg, the OWH reports. The article's paywalled, so I can't give you any of the details.

I get that SIU's falling apart as a university, but that'd still be a massive step down for him to go to that tire fire of a program.

Honestly? There were other seasons when it seemed deserved. Last year might have been better. This team under-achieved big time, but wasn’t awful. What IS awful, and seems tacky in its strategy, is pushing him out before Franny eventually goes out.
So, Big Five loses two coaches. One we knew, the other a hatchet job.
It’s just awkward. Franny and him are buds, and you saw a lot of Phil when talking about Fran’s career.

You can tell which Philly rags aren’t thrilled with it. Some just say he’s out. Others call his firing as it is, especially the Inquirer. AD recommended, president approved.
He didn’t last a year after the hiring of a new AD. And he made Hawks relevant in Philly.
Higher ed is brutal. Just brutal.

Nebraska wouldn't have leaked this, with Miles still coaching their team in the NIT this week. This is likely Hoiberg's agent leaking in the hope that some other school will offer to beat Nebraska's offer.
Also, here's a rumor that says Bill Self will follow the Chip Kelly model, and leave his college job for a pro job before the NCAA arrives to drop the hammer:
Quote:The biggest rumor mill that I found out today from a very reliable source, [is] that Bill Self will be leaving Kansas at the end of the year to become the head coach of the Chicago Bulls.

Some good reads out there on the Dunphy and Martelli dumps. The Athletic has a decent one behind a paywall.
The AD from St. Joe’s sounds like a self-obsessed narcissist. The presser is as much about her and how hard a job she had than Phil. And you’ll notice who isn’t up there with her to take some heat off. Gutless times we live in. Hopefully, she won’t last long there. She won’t be popular with Philly media, that’s for sure. The president was smart to stay away. But who knows...from the sound of it, she had been gunning for firing the guy...who’s your alternative?

Siena's Jamion Christian is the new coach at George Washington; he was only the Siena coach for one season.

The effort from this team has been terrible pretty much all year.
The Norfolk State defeat, according to Kenpom, was the worst loss we've had in 18 years since they started rating teams.
