Matt McMahon (the coach at Murray State) is an App alum who was an assistant on our staff. After Buzz Peterson's second time around (one year stint), he was an obvious candidate and the home town favorite. All we had to do was hand him the reigns, but Cobb yielded to some external pressure (reportedly) and hired Jason Capel who had a total of ONE YEAR COACHING EXPERIENCE as a lower level assistant at App. The rest is history as McMahon left for Murray State and Capel ran App into the ground.

Francher's time ran its course and a new coach had to be picked. Cobb effed up by hiring Buzz again. Then royally boned the program by passing over McMahon. The Fox hire was made because both hires before him led to the point that we needed a new coach. And that didn't turn out good either.

The Fox hire didn't work out, but at the time it appeared to be a good hire, at least to most of us. Brining back Buzz was an attempt to catch lightning in a bottle a second time and the Capel hire was just beyond comprehension. He managed to screw up our program and Capel's potential coaching career with a single decision.

Your funny,And misinformed !For the last 50 years just look at the records .. in fact we have had four really good producing teams since lol. Two of which were Buzz . The groundwork for terrible basketball was laid 50 years ago and never improved. Cobb is not the reason we have NO basketball heritage . Just look at the records.

Not a Buzz fan, but Cobb promised him certain things and reneged, leading to Buzz leaving for UNCW.

Here's the crazy part. Buzz resigned via a 7 a.m. voicemail on Friday. Had a presser at UNCW that afternoon. Buzz announced Capel as one of his two assistants he was bringing. He did not announced McMahon as he assumed Cobb would tap McMahon to be the next coach.

Cobb hired Capel the following Monday. McMahon went to UNCW for a year (which was Buzz's best year there), then went to Murray State and worked under Promm until he got his shot when Promm went to Iowa State.

Fancher's time had not run it's course. We had averaged 18 wins over the previous 3 seasons and two years removed form a 25-8 record with wins over Virginia, Vandy and Arkansas. He was primed for a outstanding 2009 season returning a solid team led by some talented sophomores. The undisputed fact is two influential donors with UNC-CHeat ties, with influence over Cobb due to making big donations to the stadium expansion project, wanted Buzz back. Buzz (who never wanted to come back to Boone in the first place) took that team, won 24 games and left for UNCW.

He didn't say Cobb is responsible for App having no basketball heritage. He said he killed it for a "literal decade", which anyone can see is absolutely true.

Houston’s Ten seasons in Boone is quite possibly the best 10 year stretch in App Basketball history. Year-in-year out contenders for conference championship and we nearly pulled off at-large bid. We had a solid foundation and were ready to take the next step... Buzzard in his one sesson continued that trend... then CC hired unCAPELble.
