Reset Page - MBB
Yes, strange concept coming from me but I know there are numerous posters who want at least ONE thread that is free of bickering.

This thread will be "stickied" for easy reference. I ask that it ONLY focus on our search for a new MBB coach, the committee assisting Huge, and current players. Lots of other threads to discuss Tony & staff, perceived malfeasance, budget, Huge, contracts, and mud-slinging.

Keep it clean.

Good idea. I also like Tribeheart's suggestion of a poll of potential candidates.

I'll ask a general question, does anyone know the state of Billy Kennedy's health? Parkinson's is prevalent in my family and treatment has advanced over the last couple of decades. I believe he is 7-8 years out on his diagnosis, but given his age may have more left in the tank than would be typical.

I'd like to add Yale coach James Jones to the list. Not sure if we offer enough to leave what he has.

Hot small school name in NC Central coach Levelle Moton. I'm not sure if he is prepared for the obstacles he would encounter here.

I know Kennedy comes from a good pedigree, but I was left pretty uninspired by his interviews. It is by no means scientific or correlate anything to do with his coaching, but man is he boring. I thought maybe it was because it was following a loss, but it was much of the same after wins too.

Scott Cherry parted ways with HPU after a couple tough years and what about Pagett (sp?) - previously interim coach at Louisville?

I think we need to focus on growing the program and finding someone to steward that. I could see someone like JT3 being that person if he's willing to live in Williamsburg and deal with the small size and brand he'll inherit. Else, we need someone who wants to be here for more than a cup of coffee. Sustainable programs are hard to come by in mid-major land. Unless we have some unknown pot of money we will still need to keep winning and increase attendance year over year. I don't really care so much about who it is, more about the type of person and their energy level.

I think JTIII is my top pick. Mainly because he is the most plug and play guy we could get. He knows high academic recruiting. He knows the type of kid to recruit and has the reputation to get his foot in the door. He will win games and he scores high on the good-guy scale. I think he would tick most of the boxes save one, I don't think we can afford him.

I agree. I think I'm even on board if he's just a transition coach and leaves for a bigger job in a couple of years. I want an up and comer for longer term, but JT3 would probably be one of the least risky hires for right now.

I know someone else brought up the name and it's unlikely because of coaching tree, but I still wonder about Jamion Christian.

If JTIII is the guy, this is how I view it. He serves as a transition guy, hopefully rebuilds his reputation, and moves on and THEN we get the hot shot coach.

I'm becoming more and more ok with that plan every day.

I totally agree with this.

The first person who replaces a legend has difficulty succeeding long term, that is why churches now have interim Pastors after a long term minister leaves for this reason.

Having a coach do so well that a big boy program hires him away (ala Shaka Smart) should be the goal at this point.

I like Jamion too. What would entice him to leave what he is building? Would we pay substantially more than Siena?

If rehabbing his image to make the jump to big time again is his goal, perhaps money won't be a driving factor. And, perhaps, a school like W&M that is unique to d1 openings as it's built to win right now would be attractive.

Until proven otherwise, you can't tell me that Shaver's abrupt firing, Huge's/JTIII previous relationship, and convenient articles on JTIIIs return to college coaching, are all just coincidences. This has been in the works for a while.
