College admission scandal
I’m sure you you’ve all heard about this by now. Rich people paying off school officials to get their spoiled kids into the college of their dreams while not earning that position. Many of them bribed coaches to include their kid on a sports team, tennis, soccer, water polo. But the most interesting thing is how much USC is mentioned, even their senior associate AD. Wonder how the NCAA reacts to all this.

Here is a current list of all involved.

RE: College admission scandal
Huffman's husband, William Macy recently complained about "how stressful" the college application process is:

I get it, I mean there's so many decisions you have to make like:

Who takes the SAT for your kid?
or, do you let your kid take it, and then pay someone to correct it before it's sent in?
What Sport do you claim your kid's a star in?
Who can you get to "doctor" a recruiting tape?
What Coach can you "pay off" to give your "undeserving" kid a spot in his/her program?

Things like:

How are you going to look yourself in the mirror?
and
How are you going to sleep at night after your kid took a space that a more deserving student was entitled to?

. . . probably never crossed his mind.

USC, UCLA, Wake Forest, Stanford, Texas, not exactly what I would call G5.

The question I have, are any of these schools also wrapped up in the basketball scandal??? Talk about lack of institutional control, kids listed as athletes and not actually playing the sport, just coaches getting paid.

This thing's starting to get interesting . . . . Kids with great credentials that didn't get into these schools are starting to file law suits for being rejected in favor of lesser qualified candidates . . .

Get your popcorn ready . . . it's gonna get messy.

You knew the lawsuits would be coming. Their problem will be proving they were the one student that was denied. I would imagine that a class action suit would be better and a list of everyone that was better qualified academically who was denied getting something.

There will probably be a "scholarship fund" set up to make up for restitution. The problem with that is that it will go to those elite schools, who don't need the help.

There is this mean, dark part of me that wants to see these people destroyed. They could have taken all those bribes, hired tutors and put a boot up the kid's backside and got them prepared for college. Instead, they will preach to us how we should live, about fairness, and then screw over some kid who is worthy for their offspring, who has wanted for nothing.

RE: College admission scandal
You know, the funny thing is (and I don’t Mean funny ha, ha) is that these people felt that they had to “Game” a system that was already rigged in their favor (white kids growing up in homes of wealth and privilege).

What does that say about their faith in their own children, kids who already went into the process with every conceivable advantage, and they still had to cheat.

Seems “corruption” is the watchword these days . . . easy for ordinary folks to be cynical . ..

I do understand why public schools (UCLA, UT Austin, etc) need to fix these issue but private schools (Ivy League, Stanford, USC, etc) can do whatever they want as long as they don’t violate any NCAA rules, right?

They are still bound by federal laws.

They (for example) can't discriminate on the basis of race, at least not explicitly (they can of course call their admissions "holistic" and rig the criteria to get the outcome they want).

As usual, you don't know what you're talking about. No one is shelling out six figures to get admission to Houston or Tulane.
