Not sure what Elon is currently paying their coach, but I would think they'd have to cough up some significant dollars... especially if bringing Shaver on would nullify his $1.7 million "Bobby Bonilla" style payout a la William & Mary.

Actually, quite the opposite. William and Mary could literally subsidize their pay for several years. Bring him on at $100k per year until his contract with the Tribe runs out. Then, if he's looking good pay him the going rate.

Subsidize Shaver’s pay? Would there not be a clause in the pay out that says if he accepts another contract it nullifies theirs?

Nope. It would offset his contract but not nullify it. Buzz had the same thing at UNCW.

Yep. Which is exactly what he did. I wish both him and Fornes success wherever they go. They both deserve it. Thankful for their time as Seahawks.

It's a darn shame that this staff basically pushed these guys out like they did. Any good staff would have done what was necessary to ensure they had them for next year.

Guards next year

Toews - Sophomore
Sims - Sophomore
Gadsden - Junior
Estime - Junior

Sure solved our PT problem with having 5 guards in one fell swoop. Guess we'll find out how much faith the others have in McGrath pretty soon.

I’ll be honest. I wish those guys the best going forward, but IMO, neither of them fit in the direction the program was going. I think this works out better for both parties, honestly. There’s no need for coach to string guys along, knowing he won’t play them and there’s no reason for them to stay knowing they won’t play.

I’ll say this to, McGrath didn’t “push these guys out” either. Pushing them out would’ve been never starting them or giving them a chance. In reality, they were our season opening starters and lost their jobs in fair competition. Sims, Gadsden and Estime proved to be better assets on the court this year and the competition is what pushed them to transfer. There’s no loss of humanity or anything for either side to hang their heads on or be blamed for.

Your argument here isn’t very good or fair to the coaching staff or current players.

They were upperclassman that underperformed this season. If that’s what you call being pushed out than so be it. They were both starters going into the season. They had plenty of chances to be leaders on this seasons team and for whatever reason it didn’t happen. It’s best that all parties involved start fresh IMO, but I’m sure there are more that will use these transfers to bash the staff even more...

Typical over reaction here. My guess is all of these guys stay considering at least 2 and probably 3 of them will be starters next year. Why transfer, sit a year with the possibility of being recruited over when you’ve solidified yourself as a starter or major PT?

Sorry, the reason it "didn't happen" is we had a coach who couldn't coach defense and felt the players were the problem. They weren't.
Oddly enough, nothing improved as we moved away from our experienced Juniors to our Sophomore and Freshmen gaurds. With them as bench players, we still managed to lose 9 of our last 10 conference games and finish dead last in the CAA.

He'd better hope we have a drastic turn around next year, because he doesn't have enough guards blame and bench. And if we don't improve dramatically, the transfers this year will be a drop in the bucket compared to the end of next year. The heat just got turned up dramatically. No more Keatts players on the roster.

Meaning what? If nobody else leaves it shows they have faith in the coaches to turn this around. If anymore leave, it shows they don't. I'm not predicting one way or the other, just stating the truth.

Oh good grief. Enough with your “McGrath is the coach, the sky is falling”. Lol. Your same song and dance is becoming nauseating.

They lost their starting spots because of spotty offensive production to go along with minimal defense. Gadsden came in immediately and produced on a regular basis and played better defense (no, not great, but better). Same with Sims. Estime was a bit spotty and as the season went on we saw Gadsden and Sims getting the lion’s share of the minutes. That’s called fair and equal competition. Get over it.

Like I said, people will use this as a reason to bash CB and the staff even more.. I’m not even going to waste the time and effort in going back and forth over it. Fact of the matter is, Taylor and Fornes are gone. Kill the staff or defend the staff, CB will be here for at least one more season (probably more). I’ll sit back and see what they can do, because they’ve had some great success on the recruiting trail.

Good luck to Fornes and Taylor wherever they end up. The writing was on the wall. For whatever reason both lost significant playing time this year. Not a huge shock on either one of them.

Toews, Gadsden, Simms, Estime, and a JUCO or Grad Transfer guard are solid group of guards moving forward next year.

Agree. Recruiting has been a significant bright spot and we should be happy about that and wanting it to continue and flourish. In the end, we’ll see if the big time recruiting pays off. Or we can moan the slow process and be negative nancies. I’d rather support the process until the powers that be force my hand in another direction. Our current players and coaches deserve that.

Lol, I predicted these two would transfer when Elmore left. No surprise to me at all so there is no "additional" bashing involved. I felt then and I feel now that players were blamed for poor coaching.

We'll see if the great success on the recruiting trail translates to wins on the court. I'm a UNCW fan, not a coach fan. I hope McGrath wins the CAA next year. I hope he turns it around and is here for 15 years as a successful coach like he said he would.
