2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Does Murphy even recruit Michigan kids? Looks like there are only 4 MI players on the roster from MI.

What's the problem here? Is there a bad perception of his program amongst the MI kids, parents, and coaches?

Probably a bad perception of EMU in general, along with the fact that Murphy hasn't exactly set the world on fire here. I'm sure it's easy for the other mid major Michigan schools to negatively recruit against us.

That doesn't really bother me. Has recruiting mostly Michigan kids helped CMU and WMU lately? Even Kampe's best players over the last few seasons have been high major transfers, who wouldn't have committed to Oakland directly out of high school anyway.

Murphy has found talent from all over the country...his problem has been coaching and finding ways to win with it.

I'll answer my own question. Everyone knows that Murphy is not a good coach and the program has flat-lined.

At the Canton vs John Glenn district semi final. Tod Kowolcyzk from Toledo and Matt Cline are here to watch 2 Mr. Basketball finalists. Mostly for Joe Moon as he is uncommitted.

Good tip. B. Artis White is signed with Western, but Joe Moon is very much on the board.

"Joe Moon IV, Westland John Glenn: Posted a game-high 27 points in John Glenn’s 67-61 loss to Canton in a Division 1 District 20 matchup."

Dear Friends,
I don't know basketball strategy, coaching techniques, etc. However, my question is; how realistic is it to talk about possible recruits when the coaching situation may be in flux? I'm sure some recruits read this site, and what may be going through their minds with what may be going on here with Eastern basketball. I find it almost laughable that anyone with any talent would even be considering coming to Eastern, and also what about our record?

I wonder if Weatherbee reads this board, and what we all think of Murphy?

With Rafus Jr leaving and assuming Stephens gets his scholie next year, we would have four scholies to give if everyone on current scholarship comes back. Reportly Dillard 6'6 and Minor 6'7 will sign. That gives us two more. I assume one will go to a PG and not sure what position the other one will go to but a power forward would be nice. I've seen enough from Macdoo and Silver this year and with Parris and Ellison returning to think we will okay at guard next year.

Murphy needs another PG and he should take a strong look at this local kid. Only 5'9" but a helluva playmaker and shooter. (Note the crowd in the Det CC highlights. His HS team outdrew EMU this year.)

If Benny White was coaching, I’m sure his son would of been in green and white.

RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting
I want a guard (?) who can flat out bomb it behind the arc.

Here is how NIU upset TOL in the MAC quarterfinals. German flatout shot the ball and Richie was 3 - 3 behind the arc. Curtains for the Rockets.

German and Richie combined for 8 of 12 behind the arc. For 12 shots that yielded 24 points or equivalent of JT4 going 12 for 12 in the paint... I doubt Shaq in his day ever went 12 for 12 in a game (okay, maybe but not very often, I'd think).

The 3 ball can be 'easy money' in college and NBA these days.

Steve you are 100% correct about the three! Unfortunately Murph over emphasizes the zone defense. You have to be a great pass deflector and defend opponents 3 ball shooting very well like Tim Bond. Unfortunately if you can do this while shooting the long ball, you end up at a Power 5 school.

I just got back from the Wizards game in which Bradley Beal put up 40 points on 9 of 12 treys.

That is the big weapon in modern day basketball.

It didn't always be that way. Old school hoops was center and power forward in the paint scoring and the 3-ball was a desperation move when needing a lot of points.
