RE: Who Do You Miss Most of Former 'Belt Members?
I wonder if any of the programs that left actually miss the Belt and regret having left? At least from a football perspective, I have to think it hasn't worked out the way some of them expected. Given that it opened the door for App, I can't say I'm sorry they left. :-)

I just want a Texas school here (playing football, as the rest of the sports are barely casual acquaintances of mine).
Agreed!

UNT was not a school that was actively looking to leave, until they left. I believe that they’d had opportunities to leave earlier, but declined to accept anything until CUSA scooped them up. The only point being that they were relatively content being in The Belt.
I’d like to have ‘em back . . . .
oh, and throw in NMSU too.

None really. None of the ones listed that were in the conference with Troy contributed anything significant except WKU in basketball.
I like to think that the Battle for the Palladium is a rivalry that I miss, but I just don't for some reason. Probably because we smashed MT over the head so many times it became un-fun. The Troy/USA rivalry is so much better.

I enjoyed being a student during our Belt years but I think CUSA is a better fit for UNT. We needed to be in a conference with other Texas schools. Yeah, the money sucks, but we actually got more regional with the move, unlike many of the other schools that joined CUSA. Wish Ark State had come too. Thats the SBC school I miss most.

I wish like hell you'd invite Southern Miss.
C-USA is a cancer.

I would vote for Western Kentucky. Good at basketball and decent at football. Instead of inviting Middle Tenn State, lets add Southern Miss. USA could move the Sunbelt east and no one should worry about protected rivalry games in football. I was also thinking about VCU, but I wouldn't want another team that is not in for all sports.

Western seemed to make USA better in MBB - great fans and a great rivalry there and I do miss it.

I'd love to see Southern Miss in The Belt, but I seriously doubt y'all would accept if offered . . . .

Kind of like missing an ex-wife. She hated you and you pretty much did not care for her. Sometimes (in my case NOT once) you think of a nice moment then you say. Gosh I am glad they are not here. Yep, kind of initially thought MTSU the fighting unicorns but then I realized they wanted to leave. Addios MUTS and the rest of you big time operators (oh I mean BIG markets). Anything Lane Kiffin touches turns to poo

UNT would be a solid add only due to Texas state needing an in state rival they seem fixated on. I'd be on board with it only if the majority Texas state fans agree. We gotta figure how to get these folks to shoot up start playing ball and be happy. Otherwise I could care less. Seriously another Texas add would likely be a good thing.

Who else from Texas, assuming UTA will continue to dither about football? I like Sam and SFA, if we were looking at FCS upgrades.

Unless either are totally committed to the degree CCU was and bring maybe an NCAA Div1 national title in ANYTHING ,big three would be a plus, I say not to both FCS move ups. Sit tight for now. We're in a good spot.

I get people having "Pride in the Conference." Folks talking about how much better the Belt has become, how we've surpassed "other" conferences . . .
. . . and then, in the next breath, someone talks about FCS upgrades to the Belt membership.
News Flash: The Belt is the only FBS Conference that has to backfill it's membership with FCS startups . . . . as long as that's the case, then the reality is: We're still at the bottom in the FBS pecking order.

That's not true. C-USA added Charlotte when they were still in their infancy, and they added ODU directly from FCS.

CUSA and SBC both called us. It's just that Benson and our former AD were BFFs. CUSA was willing to take FCS schools as eagerly as SBC.

Not trying to be a dick here, but based on what exactly?
Neither has the budget to afford a move up.
Neither has the resources to move up.
Neither has the facilities to move up.
And neither has even hinted (to my knowledge) at a move up.
As of right now, the only two universities that I can think of that even thought about potentially being FBS in Texas are UTA and UTRGV.
