RE: Men's Basketball Preseason Poll is out
Other than saying I think it will be tough to get just get into the tournament, I still stand by everything I said. The U totally flubbed the release of Scott Cross.

It came out of me ft field, came too late for him to make a move in the offseason, showed the AD really wasn’t supporting him and rewarded his loyalty unceremoniously with a guy who will bolt at the first opportunity for a better job.

And no one will convince me the Coach Cross couldn’t have put a winner out there. I’m not saying he would or wouldn’t have, but this team now is only a game above .500, despite what happened in conference play. Anyone still remember that loss to the Islanders from Corpus Christi?

I think if UTA makes it to the NCAA tournament Ogden will bolt to a bigger program. There are projected to be a lot of openings this off-season and he has the backing of Barnes and Beard (who left Little Rock after one season). I'm glad the team found a way to have some success in conference play, but I couldn't bring it in me to watch.

Sunbelt Coach of the Year!!

I was just checking if Fo and Grump were still reading..... :)

If Ogden wins the next two and gets into the tournament, I think that would be deemed such a MIRACLE for this particular season that he would indeed get serious looks by other programs. If we have to have problems, that is the kind of problem I want.

There is obviously some limit to how much we can increase comp to fend off offers, but I think we have the ability to increase it by not an insignificant amount. I think we can go a lot higher.

I knew you were posting for me. If you post it I will come haha. Even though I didn't watch this year (being in St Louis the only way would have been for me to drop $$$ on ESPN+ and decided to pass) I did find myself following box scores. It will be interesting to see what they do next year. They will have pretty much the same team minus kids who will transfer (think they will have to shed a couple kids based on scholarship limits). Hope coach has them all putting up jump shots all summer because they don't shoot that well. Maybe I'll tune in next year.

You kidding yourself if you think he refuses a P5 or next level "mid-Major (AAC, Big East, A10) offer. Cross might have, only due to loyalty to the program and history, but even he would have left for a good position.

I'll be back next year. Just did a self-imposed ban for the end of last season and all of this academic year in protest over the handling of Cross' release.

I find it ironic that UTA let a guy go who won 20 in a row for three years and we are celebrating 16 wins this year.

It may be ironic, but I am celebrating nonetheless. Going from 4-11 to 16-15 was an amazing transformation for which the kids and coaches deserve credit. Whether or not it will matter in the long run depends on what happens next.

I was appalled at the poor attendance at our rivalry game against TxState. We had only 2702 announced, despite free tickets and having won four in a row. If we can't do better at the gate next year, our chances of adding other sports will be zero.

I was there. It was about 20-25 percent Bobcat.

What indication did I give that Ogden would refuse a P5 job based on a salary increase at UTA? Nobody in their right mind would turn down that kind of money.

We are happy with our conference showing this year because of a depleted roster compared to the previous year.

I liked Cross and all. Totally respect him. Will be interesting to see if he gets a head coach job after this season.

My view is that I am here for the program. I enjoy the program and the university. That's my bottom line. I am not attached to any person in any capacity at the university however much I may like him. Coaches and ADs and deans and presidents are transitory no matter who they are. Sometimes situations are even handled in a manner that I may consider to be poor or unfortunate. That's just the way things shakeout sometimes. These things also happen at institution after institution.

Just the way I look at things.

Considering the state of athletics today, that's probably a healthy outlook.
