Buzz Williams has Virginia Tech's program in a solid upward trajectory. I doubt he would leave that to start over at TAMU.

Buzz left a good situation at Marquette for a dumpster fire in VT.

The administration at Marquette was in transition when Buzz left. Plus you had the uncertainty with the Big East dissolving at the time. VT will give him a raise and he will stay put in Blacksburg. Unless A & M gives him Calipari / Coach K money.

Buzz wants to be in Texas. Really wants UT but I bet he takes a hard look at A&M.

Buzz also has many A&M ties (served as assistant for Gillispie) and grew up in Texas. He also has many of his players graduating this year (Robinson, Hill, Clarke and Outlaw). He also may lose Alexander-Walker to the NBA. Not a lock by any stretch, but it would not be a surprise if he did make a move.

It's been my opinion for a long time that when Texas A&M looks to hire a new head coach that Buzz Williams will leave Blacksburg. I don't think Texas is a good fit for Buzz but Texas A&M fans would love his quirky nature.

With Clarke already gone and 3 seniors leaving this year and no guarantee that Blackshear or Walker will be back, I think this will be the year Buzz makes a move. The only thing that might keep him is if Texas A&M doesn't cater to Buzz's contract demands.

He has some strange details in his current contract that he might not want to give up. If he's fired without 'good cause', he keeps getting paid even if he gets another coaching job. That's unique in coaching contracts as far as I know. Also, Buzz likes having virtually no buy out in case he wants to leave.

Buzz's buy outs from 2014-15
$7 million in first year
$3.5 million in second year
$1.5 million in third year
$900k in fourth year
$500k in fifth year
$250k any year after

The rest of the perks I don't think any other school would have any trouble matching but being able to keep being paid if you're fired even if you find another job is a hard one to match.

Buzz's original contract with VT.

I can’t believe Al Skinner drifted into oblivion. He went from two time Big East coach of the year to being fired from Kennesaw State.

My question is which one of the lower tier programs takes a chance on Slick Rick?

Pitino won’t end up at a lower tier program. I don’t consider UNLV a lower tier program. Pitino won’t be coaching at Stetson or a similar school

Didn't see it on here, but Washington State is apparently parting with Ernie Kent.

He wanted the Siena job, so I wouldn’t put it past him to take over a smaller program.

I don’t believe UNLV would fire a Pitino assistant (after only two years at that) and then Pitino takes the job.

You’re right, it was his 3rd. Damn, time flies.

Anyway, I don’t think Pitino would be pleased if they fired his former assistant and then reached out to him. That was my point. But hey, who knows? He seems like a logical fit there.

RE: 2019 MBB Coaching Carousel
There really is no integrity in higher ed if Pitino is walking along his bench in less than five years of this crap.

Some Richmond fans took their disdain for Chris Mooney to a new level and bought a billboard saying they wanted their program back. It’s going to be interesting down those parts in the next few days.

One for next year for sure is Drexel’s Zach Spiker. If they didn’t extend him before the season, he would probably be gone.

I think Menzies gets 1 more year as when he took over, program was in shambles.
