RE: Men's Basketball Preseason Poll is out
I already have a room in Biloxi for the 1st week or the Tournament. Hopefully, I will be placing bets on GSU upsets.

Not really retooling too much. We return 4 starters if you count both Davis/Nottingham (even though they played the same position last year). I definitely expect better than 8th out of us.

Probably not good that our basketball schools are 11/12.

Kind of feel for UTA fans. Questionable decision to fire Cross, and now they may free fall without Hervey and Neal.

Lost 8 seniors. No matter who is coaching, there will be a fall-back this year. We shot the wad this past season.

I’m convinced we still would have been competitive, but once Cross was fired, four other players said deuces and left too. This team has 12 newcomers and zero starters returning. For those who still do care this year (I’m boycotting all sports this year due to the handling of the Cross firing), the hope rides on the fact that the players are unknown, rather than legitimately that bad. Too many juco transfers on this team for me to believe that though. We may be better than last, but even making the conference tournament is a huge question mark.
I'm feeling the same way, but I doubt my absence in the stands will be noticed. Those that have opposed UTA athletics over the years (and those I blame for the demise of football) will no doubt feel confident that they were right to say "nobody cares about UT Arlington."

I've slowly realized this too. I'm still pissed about the Cross firing and the remaining players that the new guy ran off, but you don't hear much about it any more around the Dallas-Fort Worth area. If TCU ran off the most successful coach in their major sports it would consume all of the pre-season talk, but you've barely heard anything about this year's UTA team.

1. Louisiana second? Granted, three solid starters return, but they lost THREE 1,000 point scorers and a 1,000 Plus rebounder. That's a lot of production to replace.

2. Ja'Keenan Gant was the Newcomer of the Year AND defensive player of the year. And, he's a second team pick. He'll be motivated.

3. Watch out for both ULM and App State. The Mountaineers will have easily their best team since joining the Sun Belt. And, ULM adds great talent to Munnings and Ertel. Their inside game, however, will be a question mark.

This was a very young league last year. There are a ton of good players returning.

This year, while youth could be served, they could be served as the main course. The team with the really good veterans will be near the top.

And, we are all playing for second place. GSU is a prohibitive favorite. This could be their best team.

Watched ULM in the exhibition with Henderson State. The team has no size so it will be 4-5 guards all season long. The difference between last year and this year is speed and ability to penetrate. There will be 4-5 players who can drive this year and ULM should be a better shooting team and have more than 3 scoring threats. I do not expect to see scoring droughts like there seemed to be in every game last year. This team is going to run. Hopefully it will get opposing big men tired, reaching and in foul trouble.

Remember the name Daishon Smith (Wichita State transfer). I believe you will see him on the All SBC team at the end of the season.

I keep waiting for APP to have a break out year. I haven't seen this years team yet but I keep hearing great things, I'd just be happy to finish in the top 5 of the conference.

We're going tonight to see how the Mavericks fare against a D-II team from UT Tyler. I've examined our roster and recognize about a third of the names of the 15 man team, mostly guys who got the trash minutes at the end of our games the last two years. The new guys are mostly JC transfers, and it appears we only have two or three over 6'5". Perhaps this would be a good year for us to sneak up on the teams that snuck up on us last year.

So glad hoops season is finally here. Hopefully it'll ease some of the sting of the gridiron. Hopefully.

only 1700 showed up for season opener. sounds like many have adopted the stay away plan. meanwhile coach cross is over at tcu this year and they are projected to go to the tourney so he will get the last laugh.

Someone sent me a pic of the arena 10 minutes before tipoff and it was pretty empty still. I expect they get a good attendance number for homecoming on Saturday, but I expect Northern Iowa to control the game and win.

We just finished 5th in conference last year. Finishing there or worse with everything we returned would be a big disappointment imo.

Who has the most dominant front court roster in the SBC? We are going to struggle with that team if our shooters have a bad day

Like most, we should be stronger in the backcourt.

We return 4 starters, but breaking in an new center. Depth behind him very thin too with a redshirt freshman and a JUCO guy we signed really late when our 3-star prospect there came to campus and decided after a week TXST wasn't for him.

So. Not us.

The school that underachieved the most has fired their coach. The second most underachieving team plays today against the fourth most underachieving team.

Wow! We didn't know the square root of spit-all. And when the team was 4-11, I'm sure we felt vindicated in our pre-season predictions. Next year, I'm afraid there will be fewer opportunities for us to sneak up on anybody. Kip Warren has far overachieved any 3rd team honors. Now, if we could only make it to the finals. Win two more for the Kipper!

Yeah, third team is ridiculous. Much better than that. Second seed in the conference tournament and the best player honors we got is one guy who made third team. Whatever. It's been a surprisingly good year. I didn't think we would amount to squat this year, either. Ogden turned-out - so far - to be a pretty good recruiter on short notice, and his players are motivated.
