Wonder how you get decent players to go to VCU... I doubt a coach magically starts doing this when he gets to LSU.
Wow..I wonder what the repercussions will be on LSU. Probably nothing of course.

No but if I were ULaLa, I'd be worried.
In the famous words of Jerry Tarkanian, “The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky it will probably slap another two years probation on Cleveland State.’’

It would suck if Wade recruited illicitly at VCU because the entire program is built on the foundation of guys who weren't heavily recruited and who play with a chip on their shoulder because of it. There was a really interesting NBC article essentially attributing Shaka Smart's failings at Texas to him needing to recruit 4* and 5* kids to satisfy the fan base.

Wade has been suspended at LSU. No word from TCU or Creighton.

hold that Tiger...Rice is mentioned in the story:
LSU suspends Will Wade indefinitely after wiretap report
(that's Condoleezza Rice)
think this will link back to VCU? (Or UTC)?

VCU is a Nike school, so probably not covered by these conspirators.

In this wave, probably not. But if you look hard enough, I'm sure we will find this everywhere.
Heck, look at Rice and Morcos - what are the odds that that was squeaky clean and above board?

Agreed. My comment was only to note that any VCU conversations likely wouldn't have involved these same people that the FBI was wiretapping. So not as likely having any evidence at this time. I'm not saying it didn't happen - honestly, anywhere.
Not every recruit is involved in shady stuff - I'm not trying to imply that. But it's hard to keep up, particularly at the upper echelons, without having ways to make recruits "comfortable" with joining up. We can see it with the wide range of pretty successful Adidas schools (even Creighton) caught up in these wiretaps.

Basketball only? Sorry, the big money sports are *all* D1 cesspools for the most part.
When I see stuff like this, it makes me seriously wonder if we shouldn't just pack up our things and get out of D1 for the right reasons.
It's not just the investigations; it is the tone-deafness of the fans at these sports factory schools. It is all underpinned and perpetuated by a win-at-all-costs mentality.
I want Rice to win, but if there comes a point where I truly believe that we have to cheat hard to do it, I will be all for dropping to D3. I so wish we had a like-minded peer group around so that we could stay D1 and move to the FCS in football (a la the Ivy League), but that is not happening.

No disagreement. That said, IMO, MBB is the worst offender. Partially because one top recruit can be the difference between mediocre and good. Additionally, the SAT scores of MBB players on average trail every other sport by a lot*, which means more hoops (pun intended) are needed to recruit, retain and appease.
But yes, the major sports are all cess pools. And the ESU fans are shameless.
* IIRC. Football is close. Will cite a source

No need to waste cycles on sourcing this..... Whether higher or lower, I think that it is obvious that both MBB and FB at the Div 1 are *not* known for the grey matter that they produce as schools of higher learning.
I will give a massive exception to Rice Div 1 athletes in those programs I have known and interacted with, albeit.

In terms of reactions from fans, Penn State and Baylor were really eye-openers for me.
With regards to Rice, somebody mentioned Morcos above. Rice hired him after he had been busted for cheating. What was the reaction from posters here? Most were excited how great he was going to be for recruiting. And, IIRC, they shouted down a UAB poster who tried to warn us about him.

This is an excellent point. Heck, we hired Greenspan and some people here were claiming he was a coup, well connected and had some magic plan; that referencing his history was just negativity etc etc. Double heck, Rice still has Jeff Smisek (best known for Greenspanning United and Continental and then getting fired for bribery) on the BOT. Cognitive dissonance much?
I'm with Wiessman - I'd rather see Rice drop to D3 than sell its soul. Well, sell it any more. Guys like Morcos and Greenspan have no business here ever and never did.

Those and many others. I've kept a list in my head over the years of the schools that I have to root against on principle, and just the other day I realized... the list has gotten disturbingly long.
It's gotten to the point where I kind of even look past the pay-for-play stuff, because there are just so many more ridiculous and/or horrifying things that have been exposed. I wonder at what point there is going to be a forceful objection en masse to these happenings in college athletics. Maybe never at this rate.
Edit: I took down a bit about UCSD rejecting D1 football because I don't even want to start the debate about football again. We have FBS football, and I believe we do it the right way. If others don't do it the right way or won't have football at all, that is not our burden to bear. Yet.

To be blunt, I could care less what Rhoades does, or Evans. I dont wish him a long string of failure (as I do Toad), but Rhoades *decided* to leave, and *decided* to poach. Comes close to my antipathy line, but doesnt seem to cross it. Think Michael Corleone's 'goodbye' to Fredo.
