We all but knew that with the MWC losing the Vegas Bowl that the Arizona Bowl would be their new flagship bowl game. It does suck to lose our one tie-in with the MWC.

The MWC will now play the PAC 12 in the new Los Angelas Bowl, which will be the new flagship bowl for that conference.

RE: 2020 bowls
For the MWC to consider the Los Angeles Bowl their new "flagship" bowl is sad to me. I do understand that the PAC 12 is a P5 and the schools are high profile, but for a conference champion to play the selected team ranking number 5-7 from any conference just seems to be anti-climactic. I with the G5 would at least have our conference champions matching up to help develop some inter-conference rivalries and bragging rights. What does it prove to play middle of the road P5? Those games should be regular season. If the PAC 12 would send it's #2 or 3 ranked team, it would be different.

I agree 100%. G5 conference champions should play each other in bowl games. These games would draw interest from fans from every team in those conferences. I know I'd definitely watch games pitting G5 champions against each other.

A G5 conference champion has absolutely nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing a P5 conference's 6th or 7th best team in a bowl game.

Agree. As long as the top G5 conference champion goes to the Access Bowl, the other 4 G5 Champions should play each other in bowls, and IMO these two bowls should be played closer to New Years day.

If you want to send the #2 team to play a P5 team that barely became bowl eligible fine, but your champion should play against a team that has had a similar season.

I think most on here would agree with G5 champ vs. G5 champs, but I'm not sure the general fanbase would agree.

Would your fan base opt to play MTSU or Toledo vs. a 7-5 P5 program? If it were an ACC or SEC program I bet the general App fan would choose the P5 program.

Unfortunately, you're probably correct that most casual fans would choose the P5 game. I don't understand the thinking but to some, it's all about name recognition. I strongly disagree but I have no idea what percentage would fall in the "champ vs. champ" category. I think the percentage of App fans would increase if we were playing the CUSA champ, simply because the names are more familiar (some of them at least).

Unless it was Marshall or maybe Southern Miss, I don't think our general fanbase would be any more apt to travel to a bowl game.

These bowls are to make money and advertise your school. You make more money, sell more tickets, and get more recognition playing a 7-5 P5 school then you do playing a 10-2 MAC school. You just do.

Think of the possible instate teams you could play if the SBC had bowl ties with the ACC and SEC.

I get what you're saying. I'm not even saying you're wrong. I just don't believe that's how it should be. So far, App has done well at scheduling those in-state schools for regular season games. That's where those games belong...regular season. The end of the season should be about championships and bragging rights. It's not that way because it's never been developed and presented that way. I'm not usually a "pie in the sky" person in these issues but what I'm saying is that I wish that were done. Basketball has developed these types of rivalries between conferences with mid season events.

It's going to be awesome having about four teams within a four hour drive. Two teams within a two hour drive.

I'm aware of the BayBears moving after the 2019 season to Madison, but didn't know the name of their new stadium.

I'm not sure Stadium as an actual name yet. I was just referring to the new stadium being built for them.

I agree with you, and once the P5 and G5 separate for their own championships, that is how it will happen. 04-cheers
