I wonder if he is still peddling the myth he was offered a walk on a Southern.
I wish all the Southern and State children could get along.

Let's say, hypothetically, Georgia Southern and Texas State both win Saturday and are co-champs. Then let's say someone not named Georgia Southern or Texas State wins the SBC tournament. Who gets the NIT automatic bid? Does it automatically go to the SBC tournaments #1 seed? What's the NIT tie-breaking procedure when there are co-champs?
The Conference can certify whoever they choose as the Regular season champ for Autobid purposes. In theory we could declare either Champion. In practice, it would be the #1 seed in the tournament
We've had this discussion before about next year when we enter the pod scheduling to conclude the season. In Theory, we could certify the first place team out of the normal 16 game season champs, or we could certify the winner of Pod 1 as Regular season champs, or we could certify the team with the best record after 20 games as champs, regardless how they did in their pod. No one really knows, or is sure how it's going to work.

Do they have to declare prior to the SBC tournament? For example, if we end up with co-champs in Georgia Southern and Texas State could the SBC wait to see who wins the conference tournament then declare a champion to ensure a participant in the NIT? Ie. if TXST wins the tournament you call GS the champ and if GS wins the tournament you call TXST the champ.

Yeah I’m pretty confident we’d have to do that ore tournament. This is a weird year, where we’re likely going to have a tie, and it’s possibly going to involve a messy tiebreaker that could potentially come down to record against 8th place. To be honest I’m not sure we’ve had a tie for first since NIT auto bids started

If there is a tie, they will be co-champs.
But the tiebreaker rule will be enforced and the league will name the winner of that tiebreaker as the designated champion for NIT purposes, should that team not win the tournament.

I'd imagine they would solve it by, if the #1 seed doesn't win the tournament, then the #1 seed goes to the NIT

I know LR tied WKU at 15-3 several years back. WKU had the tie-breaker and I believe they won the tourney. So as the #2 seed, we didn't get an automatic bid even though we tied for the title.

I looked back at every NIT from 2015 to 2018. In every single instance of there being co-champs with neither making the NCAAs the #1 seed got the NIT autobid, the #2 seed never has in the case of co-champs.

In the 2012-2013 season, when we were in the WAC, Denver and Louisiana Tech ended up as regular season co-champs. Louisiana Tech was the #1 seed and Denver was the #2 seed. In the second round of the WAC tournament, Texas State upset Denver and UTSA upset Louisiana Tech. New Mexico State ended up winning the tournament. Louisiana Tech
and Denver were both invited to the NIT. So it can happen.

I assume Denver was considered "good enough" to be in the NIT. The NIT was under no obligation to take them. Not sure our #2 seed would be considered good enough this season, but I have not studied the NET rankings, RPI, or whatever they are using these days.

Exactly. Louisiana Tech’s RPI ranking was #51. New Mexico State was #56. Denver was #63. It is likely that it won’t happen for the Sun Belt. No team in the Sun Belt is in the top 100 in Net Ranking. But the point I was making is that it can happen.

I'm talking strictly automatic bids to the NIT.
Louisiana Tech got the automatic bid that year, as they were the WAC's #1 seed and didn't make the NCAA tournament.
Denver got an at-large bid, which literally any team in the country is eligible for unless they're on a post-season ban.
Given TXST isn't in range for an at-large bid even for the NIT just based off its NET rating, I was trying to figure out what exactly we needed for an automatic bid. Which I'm now 99.99% sure would require us to earn the #1 seed in the SBC tournament.

Keep in mind the NCAA took over running the NIT tournament in 2015. Anything before that time should probably be ignored as any type of expected operation.
