A’s and B’s first, X’s and O’s second

There is so much more than football that could explain the love and regard new NIU head football coach Thomas Hammock, ’02, has for his alma mater.

“[NIU] has always been a special place for me in my development as a man,” Hammock said. “Coach (Joe) Novak took me in, nurtured me, and made sure that I was a student-athlete and not an athlete-student.”

I wish people would take this view with Childers. He was playing for the worst offensive coach in FBS, yet people abused and trashed him instead of placing the blame where it belonged

Is it bad that I cringe every time I see one of your posts?

Thomas Hammock:

“I was raised on the principal of tough love, but over the course of my football career, I’ve learned to flip those words to love tough.”

This man is a gem. IMO, there could be no one better for the job. Looking to see great things next season.

Thomas Hammock is a wonderful human being and a terrific representative of the school he loves. He’s smart, caring, and passionate about life and football. I just know that he will be one of NIU’s best coaches ever.

At the very least he may turn out to be one of NIU's most respected coaches ever.

He's only been here a bit more than 6 weeks. He is relentless.

Looking forward to hear him speak after the Spring Game.

RE: Hammock
The only thing that scares me about Hammock is we all love him. This board of knuckleheads does not have a good track record.

IMO, MAC Championships, wins over top 20 and then wins over Big 10,SEC matter in that order of importance. That is how Thomas should be graded.

It's rather incredible the amount of support and hype he's generated in such a short period of time. The real test will be on the football field but the momentum is certainly on the rapid rise. You also get the sense that he's not looking at this position as just a stepping stone. I believe he wants to emulate Joe Novak to go down as an NIU coach legend.
