RE: Ranking SBC Coaching Jobs
I do agree that ULM is the least attractive option, and that's only because of the shoestring budget they have. It requires the coaching staff to work that much harder just to get the same results.

One of the main reasons why I admire the ULM team (and coaches) so much.

stAte seems to be paying pretty well, and they have shown to be a launching pad to P5 gigs. So I can see why they are ranked tops.

Though IN THEORY we should be the most attractive job (based on budget, "newness" of stadium, recruiting hotbed, large student population, close proximity to large contingency of alumni, a campus that I would put up against any in the conference without missing a beat, and the like), that hasn't resulted in our coaches being successful or being poached. So, middle of the road for us, to me, sounds too high. I'd put us towards the bottom, as it points to some major negative at our school.

I'd have to put Georgia Southern near the bottom of the list as well, even though they are successful and have a very passionate fanbase. The big negative for them is that they almost require (and I'm not knocking you on this) the triple option offense, which keeps the attractiveness down.

I think App would be up there purely because of location, fanbase, and a decent budget.

Louisiana would be up there too, because they have demonstrated they will open the purse strings for a winning coach.

Everybody else? Kinda in the middle.

The writer already listed the triple option as being the reason he put GS so low

If you win you will shut up the fan base. We had fans complain when Willie Fritz was hired because they didn't like that we weren't running the Paul Johnson variant of the option, but it didn't take long at all for most to warm up to Fritz. Chris Hatcher shut up much of the fan base, at least for a season before his mismanagement of the roster created a downward spiral.

One thing I will say, though, is that if you're going to come to GS and run a conventional offense you're going to have to hit the juco market hard for a QB and some receivers. The path to a P5 job is at least a year or two longer at GS than it is at App or Ark State because of that.

The upside for GS is that we have (I'd argue) the best location recruiting-wise in the entire Sun Belt. Good proximity to both Florida, metro Atlanta, and in Georgia. No disrespect to Texas State, but it's a really big state geographically and the state already has so many G5 programs.

I would agree with the recruiting comments. You have the best base in the conference. Population and location, lots of good high school football, few instate competitors, your system should appeal to all but the air attack kids. You will also see more competition form other SBC schools.

RE: Ranking SBC Coaching Jobs
Had this been a couple of years ago I would’ve argued for Astate tops. While we have been throwing a lot of resources into football facilities and amenities And finances are still competitive fact is the success on the field has begun to slowly but surely wane.

I think at this point I’d go
1) App
2) Troy
3) Astate
4) Southern
5) Louisiana
6) Georgia State
7) Texas State
8) South Al
9) CCU
10) ULM

Really could easily switch between Georgia and Texas State but success seems to have come more for the Panthers and they do have the newest and most unique stadium in the league. In time I could see Coastal and south al easily competeting. There’s no denying ULM is the toughest job in the league

I don't get why people think one program has surpassed another program because one has a couple of seasons that are better.

Here's how I would compare Ark State to App and Troy...if a coach like Neal Brown or Scott Satterfield were at A-State would they be better? I think so, but not by a whole lot.

It's the same thing for fools that act like App State has left GS in the dust because App has a coach that will probably be in their athletics hall of fame some day while we have maybe one of the worst FBS head coaches in decades.

To me it's all about who could do the most with a coach of a given ability level, and that's tricky to try and judge:

1. Ark State
2a. App
2b. Troy
3. GS
4. UL

GS drops below the other 3 because of what I mentioned upthread, but is ahead of UL because of location.

RE: Ranking SBC Coaching Jobs
I think it is a good thing but GS fans simply won t let sorriness in the football program last long. How many schools would fire a coach after a year and a half? Summers needed to go no doubt but few Belt schools— or any others— would have done it. Our AD basically had to do it or get fired himself. Some of our other sports— especially women s sports— let mediocrity continue. But in football you either win here or hit the road

It's about a lot of things. Success over time under various coaches. Salaries for HC and staff. Budget spent on facilities, training table, apparel, recruiting, camps, etc. Ability to draw talent to the program. Chances to move to a bigger job with success (nobody wants a coach with no ambition). Fan support.

A job is not attractive because one single coach is having a good run.

These lists are good for wasting a few minutes during that off season but that's about all they're good for. Fact is that, it's an opinion not a metric. Which job is the most attractive is a function of fit between what the coach likes and what the university offers. Yes, all coaches want to win but some enjoy building programs while others really get into tweaking and fine tuning. Some are good at game strategy. Others are better at player development. For a particular candidate, ULM might be the ideal opportunity.

They left out the main reason to be a coach at stAte. No matter how bad you are, we won't fire you.

And what location would that be?

Louisiana is a hot bed for recruiting. And, Lafayette is the most vibrant and progressive city in the state.

You need to make a road trip.

It's nice, but not like our location.

https://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal...e-ncaa-map

Georgia is ahead of Louisiana in percentage of players recruited by DI, but more importantly is way ahead in the number of DI prospects produced. And we have Jacksonville and North Florida in our backyard, as I said.

And you guys compete with ULM, Tech, and Tulane for in-state players with a bunch of FCS schools while there are only 2 G5 schools in Georgia and soon to be just 2 FCS schools.
