Kent State vs. Ohio
The Golden Flashes host the Bobcats in what appears to be a must win tonight at the MAC Center. Ohio University is coming off a nice home win over Bowling Green. But the fact remains, they are 4-10 in the conference and had lost 6 straight prior to last weekend's win.

While Ohio University is in the thick of the battle for the #12 seed, KSU is fighting on for a shot to bye into the quarterfinals. With two of the last three games on the road, the Flashes must take care of business against OU.

Kent State 79
Ohio 61
The message board will be a fun place manana.

We’re not very good. Whittington gets in foul trouble due to poor defensive fundamentals. We don’t get back in transition and run no set offense. Light years right now compared to earlier this year.

Undefeated in games decided by 5 points or fewer. That's really a significant factor that tells you a lot about this team.

Frankly, wonder what team you were watching???

Whittington and OU center both in foul trouble on ??? verticality calls.
OU got 10 points on fast breaks/transition ... KSU had 16 and probably should have had several more.

Kent had 17 assists with five players getting 3 or more. ... Only 5 turnovers.

That's what the box score says.

May not have been a stylistic beauty of a game ... but nowhere near what you are implying.

A win is a win in the MAC, especially against OU no matter what kind of season they are having. Winning 20 games isn't what is used to be, but it is still something lots of teams would envy.

Frederick sure has been a life saver this year. I wonder if he would have played a role if Pippen and de Rosa were still playing. No Duling last night. It seems like when somebody surprises and plays well he loses time the next game (when Petersen has a good game a few games ago the same thing happened). Sometimes I don’t understand these moves. Matchups I assume.

Walker banked in the three (pure luck) and that seemed to relax him as from that point on he seemed to find is shot. We definitely need him to stay hot for 2.5 more weeks.

It tells you a lot about Avery. He stays under control and almost always hits a big three. That’s why you need point guards.

Is it just me or was this the most nonathletic team that I have seem from Ohio U in years. There were a couple of nice young players but in general there was no one outstanding. We helped them by not covering very well.

It wasn’t just you. First of all they seemed scared to shoot. A lot of just passing the ball around the perimeter. Talent wise we should have won that game a lot more easily but this time of year all that matters is winning.

Wondered myself about Duling - watched him in warmups - he seemed disinterested maybe he knew he wasn't going to play. I'm happy we won but way too many open OU players on the block with easy shots - 22 assists for them. Walker was 1 for 5 on foul shots until the last twp - Moff indicated he was injuried in practice this week.

Duling can't have known for certain he wouldn't play. Who can know about injuries or foul troubles? It really surprises me that he has contributed so little in his first two years. Another player that seems to have no future here is Kain Harris, unless there is some injury or something I don't know about.

You're correct about Duling as he had his warm ups off - I figured he would play given OU was the taller and physically bigger team.

I thought the turning point for Walker was when he had to be separated from Kirk. Kirk was harrassing him before an inbounds and he shoved him off a couple times then the ref stepped in and talked to them. After that he caught the inbounds pass and immediately drilled a corner three. I think he hit his next 2 or 3 shots after that. He was visibly frustrated most of the night. Seemed like that got him pissed and helped him get out of his own head.

Clearly they don't have any bears in Athens, but now Kirk knows not to poke them.

"He seemed disinterested ...."
That might be the reason as well.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio
I spoke to an OU alum and their coach is a "dead man walking". Allegedly a big booster spoke to the OU President about hiring Jeff Boals. However, they are unsure if Boals comes back. Somewhat lateral move. Hes doing well at Stoney Brook and he might wait for a bigger offer. If Boals doesnt take the job the booster asked about Ford. The President said "no way" to Ford. Looks like Coach Ford has burned a few bridges. Has he paid us back entirely?
